Just imagine that you are sitting in your barbers chair and the inevitable question comes up! Now that the holiday season is fast upon us and the count down to our hard earned vacation begins I just wondered where you guys are travelling to this year? Is it a stay cation or a long term planned tour of some far flung destination? For me I had two fantastic weeks in Cuba at the start of the year and unfortunately I'm working all through the Summer but will be going to Rhodes for a week in October. With all the s h I t that is happening at home at the moment anywhere abroad will be preferable!
My last proper holiday was ten days in Benalmadina in 1990 Since then, it's been a couple of nights or so in Either Sunderland or, more recently, Norwich, mainly due to cash restraints!
My eldest who is just 20 is currently holidaying in the Greek Islands, last year rather than fly she travelled by road through several European countries with her Fiancé and his family before spending two weeks in Portugal. They took a different route on the way back finishing with a long weekend in Paris, this was not on the itinerary but the car broke down so an extended stay ensued before a flight home to Stansted where Dad's taxi was waiting ! She has travelled far more than I in her young life already and is is far more mature than her age would suggest. Me ? Well I won't be going anywhere as the Ex has left me potless but I have never been one for holidays anyway. I'm working through until the end of summer then I have 2 weeks off at the beginning of September when I will chill out at local hostelries for the duration to re-charge my batteries
I bet you must be sick to death with all the holiday makers that flock down to your part of the world at this time of year! They always seem to be from Birmingham and the Black Country!
As soon as the sun comes out Birmingham empties and Weston fills up! They think they're coming to the seaside and all they get is muddy estuary water!
The M5 down to Wessun is a far better journey for Brummies even when it is busy than the delights of the M6 and tortuous A14 !!!
We try to persuade them that Clevedon is nearer to them than Weston, but they never listen!. It used to be a nightmare when Wembley was being redeveloped. Hoards of them used to stop over on the night before a cup or play-off final!
I'm off to the west coast of Cyprus for a we family holiday in August, it'll be bloomin scorching, but with a pool and a beer or two that will do me right well. I stayed at a friends place near Monmouth for our Jaunt to Cardiff. But now residing in the Midlands, I can testify to a deep seated hatred of the A14, why is it always bloomin jammed!!! Bah!
It is the main route from the industrial centres in the Midlands to the Port of Felixstowe and should have been upgraded to at least a 3 lane Motorway years ago! The stretch between Huntingdon and Cambridge is the original highway to hell!
Finland for me in August. Wooden lodge, Sauna, lake, fishing and hunting. For a week. No technology, just me and my wife and kids.
I lived near there for several years in the late 80s and it never ceased to amaze me how many people would be rushing back to their cars as the tide came rushing in before they got swamped.
That's the exclusive domain of Leicestershire people. Well, north Norfolk is anyway. More of them than there are of us in July and August!
I used to love going to places like Dunwich, Walberswick, Aldeburgh and Southwold until the gentrified London W an kers discovered them about 10 years ago! Now you can't find a parking spot and all the prices on essentials like wine and beer have been cranked up to London prices! Why can't they all just fcuk off back to some god awful place like Sarfend like they used to!
