Dumbest idea ever. This has to be pressure from the impatient Americans and TV-commercials. http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/40311889
I think the US suggested this when they had the World Cup to allow for TV advertising and is the reason football has never really caught on there
Awful idea...my initial reaction is no way should anything change...it's the game we all love. That said, the only way anything advances is from new enthusiasts coming in the with new ideas. I draw the line at three thirty minute periods...that's just dumb, but not all new ideas will be awful.
It's not three thirty minute periods Dave. It's two halves of thirty minutes which is timed only when the ball is in play. In an average match the ball is only actually in-play for sixty minutes anyway. I'm not bothered either way but one positive is that you won't get an Eric Cantona 98th minute goal again.
Unnecessary idea. If the current game has only 30mins play time in the 45, and the idea is to convert 30mins with the clock stopping ... errrrr what's the point in the change at all if the outcome is the same? No deal! Find a way of dealing with the diving cheats instead ... far more constructive and will make the game better. Also return the 'respect for the referee campaign with some 'balls' this time!
An excellent proposal. Just think of how many times you have been frustrated by players suddenly becoming the slowest walkers in the world when subbed, how teams celebrate a goal for two minutes or how a keeper spends all day trying to find a nice spot to place the ball at a goal kick? Another proposal (not mentioned here) is that only the captain can talk to or approach the ref. Edit: and that the game/halves only finish when the ball is out of play. (Also very wise!)
Will ticket prices be reduced to reflect the shorter game, absolute nonsense of an idea, if it ain't broke don't fix it sounds like a Shaun Harvey idea.
What a 5hite idea. Why not also make the players wear loads of protective garb as well. The games will last three hours or more as the pundits analyse each fragmented 20 second piece of play.
I wouldn't worry about that Mr 9's, that 100% can't happen again as he retired from playing back in 97...
