This is my fear. All the good work of getting rid of the deadwood would be undone if we sold Howson and had another crap season! Not saying that losing Howson would make us have one but if we did, Webber would have made a right cock up! Fans would be in a worse mood than they were at the end of this year!!Worrying that £4m is being bounded about! As you say... £10m minimum! We can't be in that bad a position... can we??? Webber may pull a rabbit out of the hat by selling Howson and getting someone as good or better and cheaper... but you would have to go a long, loooong way to find a player like that for under £4m!!!!!!!! BIG GAMBLE if it happens!
This is the problem the club has by persevering with this self-funding policy. If there are no sensible offers for Naismith and Wildschut, for example, (and why the hell should there be), they may have to reluctantly accept £6-7m for a real asset like Howson or god forbid, Pritchard, as the only way of funding new defenders which everybody agrees is the main priority.
There's another factor to consider. If we sell our best players to rivals like Leeds or Sunderland, we diminish our chances of promotion. Yes, Marley Watkins on a free is good business because we need another player on the right. If we sell Howson we're left with Dorrans and Tettey, backed up by Thompson and Godfrey. We can't be that skint after saving all the wages on the out of contract players and a £30m parachute payment that we have to take desperate measures like selling Howson and hoping to find a replacement of the same quality.
List of City players who cannot be sold. Any player 22 and under, Pritchard, Pinto, Oliveira and Howson. And I am aware that I have left Holahan out of that scenario.
I'd like us to keep hold of CamJam for another season. He has a knack in the Championship of bundling/heading in goals on the semi regular. I think he's had a decent season, considering.
He always works very hard for the team, I just wish he'd wear contact lenses so he could see where the goal is!
He can see it Dave, it's just that someone moves it right at the last second before he shoots ........
Yep, so can't really say he deserves the chop. He did his job. That's why I'd like to keep him another season.
I was replying to a post about only keeping under 22's and a few other players listed. I replied to that with "I'd keep CamJam for another season". That's all. Because he wasn't on that list. Was just my opinion added to his opinion.
As we are staying in the Championship, I'd say he's a definite keeper, not quite good enough for the Prem though, if we ever get back there!
Agreed. That's why I said "for another year" (I'd also keep Hoolahan and Martin, as bit part players, to help the youngsters. But that's an unpopular opinion too)
Funding new defenders is a pointless exercise if we get rid of Howson and Pritchard as they are our two main assit makers.
My list was of players who CANNOT be sold. This did not mean that the rest should be sold, but if the right offer came in it should be considered.
I promise to be kind to old ladies this weekend if either of these this is true - http://www.shoot.co.uk/sunderland-linked-to-naismith-deal/ http://www.footballinsider247.com/b...avourites-to-re-sign-prolific-forward/<yikes>
