He may have hogged the ball, but his defending was selfless, for a team that leaks a lot of goals he would certainly be an upgrade in my opinion. Wasn't he player of the season inspite of all these failings? I know I would prefer to let the Murphy's continue to develop and hopefully star over the next few years, but I don't think it changes the fact that he is currently a better allound player. They all bring; Goals and assists, they all lose the ball through going it on their own, the Murphy's have pace but he is defensively much better. Like I say, I'd rather keep faith with the Murphy's and I think with the right coaching they could be better than Snoddy, but they're not there yet! Bah!
Indeed, but his use of the ball was so much better and proactive than Tettey's - on the all too rare occasions we got to witness it. Be a major headache solved if he makes a full recovery
Yes, I felt that as well Cromer and Tettey's use of the ball is his major weakness. Fingers crossed for Thompson's full recovery!
If, as well as the POTS award, we had a 'sideways Sammy' award, AT would have won it an unprecedented three (3!) times already
I see what you mean, DH, but I think the 4-4-2 formation is misleading. Barnsley play a long-ball game with two ranks of four pumping the ball up to two strikers. If you look at the video, Watkins is arriving from deep to support the strikers or he is playing as one of the strikers himself. Whoscored logs the positional play of each player, which is why they show him deeper in midfield for 19 games, with 13 as a striker and only twice forward on the right. It looks like a 4-4-2 on paper, but it's more like the way Ipswich play (well, call it playing).
Bethnal Y and G@BethnalYG I have a Jonny Howson hot take. Prepare yourself. Bethnal Y and G@BethnalYG Norwich probably should sell him. He's about to turn 29 and a big earner. Webber wants a high press, high intensity team. That isn't Jonny Bethnal Y and G@BethnalYG 3. If Norwich don't sell him this season he will be worth considerably less next season and if Norwich change their style he might struggle. http://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/...urs-leeds-plot-4m-jonny-howson-raid-1-5022407
Feeds believe he is available for £4m. Dream on suckers. Lower premier club would at least double that figure.
Looks like a cocky prick in the video posted, and almost a carbon copy of Wildschut! How well has he worked out?! This signing only makes sense if Naismith, Jarvis or Wildschut are being moved on, preferably 2 of 3.
That's great news and apart from 4 or 5 left sided wingers that can also operate as an number 10 or second striker we are all set.
Well this is probably going to pour petrol on the fire, but this is what Terry Butcher said of him after he managed him at Inverness: “He is quick, has a lovely touch, he is immensely strong and good in the air. He is a nice lad too, I never had a problem with him – he was a pleasure to work with. He has got unbelievable potential and is hungry to succeed.” If it helps, Butcher is gutted that it looks like he isn't going to Ipswich and is coming to us instead. On a free transfer, it looks like good business to me. As for the outs, I'm beginning to think that both Naismith and Jarvis will leave if SW can manage it. If, as some have said we're going to go down the Huddersfield route of high pressing tactics then there will be more changes. I don't know about Howson and how SW sees him going forward, but he will turn 29 in four days time. I can't help feeling that if Howson goes, much of the fan base could turn on SW. Interesting times.
If he can't manage it, he can gladly have my phone number and email address, because I can £8.5m approx and circa 50k a week...all down the pan in realistic terms of what we've had back from the player. Shockingly poor appointment and all it's done is hampered Pritchard's progress and involvement - until Irvine grabbed the reins.
Didn't we run out of midfielders last season? I'm willing to give Wildshit another chance as he joined us late last season when AN and the team were in disarray.
It's the tabloid silly season, fill-yer-boots with made up tosh time - so it's refreshing to know this Sorry, no such thing guys http://www.footballinsider247.com/reliable-journalist-delivers-update-leeds-reported-pursuit-howson/
Quick, guys, lively up yourself! Apparently we've agreed a deal, possibly three years, for Marley Watkins - if Teamtalk is to be believed. And the last paragraph suggests we have a manager in place (? ) though I suspect that's a typo. http://the72.co.uk/81296/ba/
Sign Watkins on a free, sell Naismith or Wildschut for a few million. maybe three mill, we then apparently have a player as effective , money in the bank and a saving on salary. OK, we take a hit on the transfer fee, but that is a result of the boards blind faith in the previous incompetent, sorry, incumbent.
Naismith's value on Transfermarkt is £5m and it's possible one of the teams promoted to the PL could be interested for say £3-4m. Huddersfield, for example, will lose Mooy next season and Naismith could be seen as a replacement with valuable PL experience. Jarvis is another player who could leave, possibly on loan to save his wages. I'd rather Wildschut is given a fresh start in the pre-season with a new manager and a new tactical approach. At 26 he should be coming into his prime and his wages are likely to be reasonable. That would leave us with Josh, Wildschut and Wes as options on the left and Jacob and Watkins as options on the right, which seems a reasonable balance. Watkins and Wildscut can also play as a striker if need be.
