There's a lot of positive comments about his time at Birmingham, and he played the majority of Rotherham's games. Central (defensive) midfield is an area where we have reasonable strength (Howson, Dorrans, Tettey, Thompson) so I wouldn't want us spending much money there, but as a free transfer I wouldn't complain. He's young, intelligent and may feel he has a point to prove here. As a third/fourth choice which might allow us to move Tettey on and free up some wages and capital, it wouldn't be the worst move.
Cant get games at Cardiff and was part of a relegated Rotherham side... would rather he went to Ipswich than came back! Nothinf against the lad but he isn't good enough and never was... hence why he left.
Think CM (especially defensively) IS a position that needs strengthening but he is not the one for us if we are to actually improve!
http://readnorwich.com/2017/05/09/norwich-show-interest-in-former-academy-product-adeyemi/ Well done Norwich.
IMO, I wouldn't mind seeing Rudd given the No 1 shirt - http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwic...ke-his-chance-after-john-ruddy-exit-1-5009706 Thoughts???? I'd CERTAINLY rate him ahead of McGovern!!!
The Adeyemi story comes from HITC, so a few grains of salt needed there. I agree that we need to strengthen at DM and Tettey is over 30 now. Adeyemi was impressive against us at Rotherham and had 7 goals in 30 appearances for them, but I haven't really kept up with him since he left. Whatever we think, it's what SW and the recruitment team think that would matter.
While this is indeed true, it's going to be a long, tedious football-free summer if we can't discuss press links, media gossip etc on the forum. It's all we've got to work with until a) August or b) something is announced on the official club website
Beat me to it. Whilst i can't disagree with the final sentence in Rick's post, what's the point if we can't speculate? That's what keeps the forum going, isn't it?
I agree up to a point gandy, I'm not sure how much credence anyone can attach to a report in HITC, I think even the Daily Fail is more reliable than that!
Yes Dave, I don't take much of it as fact either. It was more the quote about 'SW and the recruitment team' will decide. Stating the obvious, no doubt, but not much fun when you can attach that to everything.
While I'm sure the recruitment team is at work identifying prospects, I don't believe we'll sign anyone without the new HC's approval. Hopefully the new coach will have players he can attract to the club.
Apologies to you and to Gandy if you thought I was discouraging speculation. Far from it, as I intend to go on speculating throughout the summer! I was only trying to stress the fact that is speculation is often based on unreliable sources. Adeyemi is a typical example. It could be a lazy blogger (as that's all HITC is) seeing a player coming to the end of his contract and linking us to him because he was a youth player here. On the other hand you could take the link further by saying that Adeyemi played under Rosler at Leeds and Rosler is a potential HC candidate here. There you go, two speculations in one! Looking at Steve Stone's interview in the Pink'un we learn that essentially we're still in a sell before we buy situation. That follows on from SW's interview the day before where he said that Dijks wants to stay but it would be an 'expensive deal' (about £4m euros) and that someone else would have to move on to make that possible. We are getting £30m+ from parachute payments but much of that will be committed to restructuring the club for life without PL money. That means Adeyemi on a free transfer looks suddenly more attractive. If he came in and Tettey is sold, then we might have the money needed for Dijks through any fee and a saving on wages. That seems to be the world we're now living in. The trouble is, as with Lafferty, players won't move on unless we get offers and they're willing to go.
As for Adeyemi not fitting in at Cardiff, It could be that he doesn't fit the Warnock hoofball style.
I think we should try our hardest to sign Dijks. Bearing in mind he came to us half way through the season I think he would be great for a complete season. He clearly want's to sign for us, well if his reaction by his encouraging the crowd to sing "sign him up" louder at the end of the QPR game is anything to go by. If he isn't picked up by a lower PL club that is. Adeyemi is a strange one though. I personally wouldn't go there because we have had him once and he didn't pull up any trees. This would be an AN type signing. There's a lot of work to do in the close season, major decisions and the defence needs a total revamp. Where does this leave Rusty? He isn't a CB or RB.
I agree about signing Dijks. SW said that he's still contracted to us for a bit longer so we'll have to see how that goes. Adeyemi was only 19 or 20 when he left us 5 years ago, mainly because Hughton didn't have much interest in bringing on young players. As for Martin, SW said that he is one of our 2 CBs left and that he is staying, as is Wes 'to help the younger players'.
Ok, I'm going to say that as long as we have Rusty at the centre of our defence we will continue to concede goals.
He should be back up RB to Pinto next season - putting him in at centre back is tantamount to giving the opposition a goal head-start.
The second paragraph really sums my view on the rumour up. Adeyami is a comfortable championship player, whom we could potentially bring in on a free transfer with low wages which would enable us to sell Tettey for a fee and reduce the wage bill. He would more than likely be behind Howson, Thompson and Dorrans, as will Tettey next season I believe. I can't really see any problems with the idea tbh, it's a cover position and would allow us to concentrate more money on our defence.
Sorry, but I believe " we do not have to sell any layer we do not want to " dispels this myth. Not sure where this came from.
