Got to say I find that a little bit harsh on Monk. You see him as a "failure" because we ran out of steam and the players choked at the death, so he's being judged on disappointment rather than a view of the whole season. No one was expecting as good a season with this squad, we were in it almost to the last match, it's the highest finish since the year promoted from league 1. Monk has rotated the midfield all season and if you look at the points difference between us, Wolves and Burton, any combination should have been good enough to beat them both but that's what pressure can do.
That's what happens when you've got failing eyesight & earsight Thought: If he loses his voice, should we call him Tommy? (One for the more mature posters)
What do you mean almost to the last match? A simple 14-0 victory & a Fulham defeat gets us to the play-offs. All you negative buggers, eh? But a good point, and one I've made myself - our best season ever in the championship, and who would have thought that at the beginning of the season? And the return of hope! Remember hope?
I see him as learning as he goes along, a work in progress, not a failiure as such. He exceeded my expectations but he was told top 6 given a lot of backing, allowed to bring in 12 new signings and finished 7th. Yes harsh as it is I guess bottom line is he failed in what he was told was expected. I know that thought puts me in the minority but black or white yes or no answer is he failed. Will this season make him better next season, I hope so if he remains. We have battled at the wrong end of the table season after season with loan players that were left overs and freebie journey men. This time around a lot of money was spent and argue was it enough or not we splashed out over £2m on at least three players (if Pontus has signed) and loans on players with hefty release clauses or right to buys. If we had been battling at the wrong end of the table after finally spending decent money then something would have been majorly wrong.
It's the 11th year running you have failed to be the top 25% of the 2nd teir - with the crowds you get, something is fundamentally wrong - and that's with 5 different ownership set ups and 12 different managers.
Would that be little 5 foot 10 Naismith ? but no cant say I remember that or any headed goals or Green saving headers,do remember their CH out jumping the giant Roof quite a lot and all their goals coming down Bartley and Aylings side, but maybe that's Janssons fault for only being 1 player.
On the other hand its the 28th consecutive year of finishing above you lot despite your owner putting in £20 -£30 million.
Eh? Their second goal came down our left - i.e. Berardi & Jansson. The other two were straight through the middle. In all 3, only 1 of our DMs was visibly DM'ing. No idea what O'Kane was doing. Not sure what you're saying about headers. If we'd won more, we might have scored more. Simple as that. Btw, he's bloody little compared to Jansson!
Well he's a Giant to me and Shako. The point I'm trying to make is Imo Jansson did no wrong and was at no fault for any of the goals.
Hope so. We just ran out of steam at the end. But keeping Jansson, Bartley, Wood etc & bringing in a bit more quality will see us there next season
