I did the Height of the Reeds today. Walking over the Humber Bridge with headphones on. Music and a bit of spoken word on the way over and then weird sounds recorded from the bridge itself Quite cool in good weather. Really immersive of you turn the sound right up Was a bit surreal though when we did it because someone was threatening to jump off the bridge*. He'd left his car on the carriageway and so the whole bridge was closed to traffic and the A63 was closed going under it too So everything was completely still while we walked over...weird (apart from one bloke on the wrong side of the fence on the other path, and lots of emergency services quietly waiting around) *I understand the outcome regarding the jumper was ok and he didn't
I saw your photo & thought,- A) He's not really causing that much of a disturbance to shut the bridge or B) He's impersonating a 'professional footballer' with his big earphone things ! (glad the actual disturbance turned out okay)
I went to Ferens this morning early it was still quiet so had a good look around and like others who commented, the lifelike statues are freakishly amazing, my wife was slightly scared by the massive head as was I, the detail even down to whiskers on the face is outstanding art. To be stood in the same space as the Queens ( ours ) Rembrandt in Hull is bloody good, and the blue nuddies? yeah that's pretty great
I saw the large head as a great accomplishment of skill, but not so sure about art. I'm couldn't get it. I felt the smaller pieces such as the young man with the stab wound as far better art. The whole 'skin' section was great though. I also liked the 'Cove' display against my expectations. Great to see a Rembrant and also didn't realise there was a Manet in there, albeit a preparatory work.
