I disagree. What's the point of an 18 month ban. I would have charged him 500k, albeit 6 months wages or thereabouts. That money could go into grass roots football or ex footballers that have fallen on hard times before the invention of the premier league
Merson was just one of many that got let off lightly - add Roger Stanislaus, Lee Bowyer, Chris Armstrong, Kolo Toure, Jaap Stam. Pep Guariloa. & Mamadou Sakho to the long list of players that got off ban free after failing tests! Seems top level players have different rules to the lower league players!! Unless your Jake Livermore of course
The parallel with Merson is that Barton has gone down this path because of an illness. So he has admitted that he has a problem, and should be helped. For me, a ban is more apt if there is no illness, or at least no admission of illness. I cite plug as an example. He avoided a drugs test. THAT deserved a ban, as he was circumventing the rules intentionally (or otherwise). And even he, without the illness mitigation, only got an 8 month ban! 18 month ban is too harsh. I suspect he'll appeal & get it reduced to 6 months.
Tbh, I'm more upset at the FA having one set of rules for Arsenal players & their like, and another for the likes of Barton AND LUFC!!
100% right the games not being fixed is the main thing here,an alcoholic who turns up at work drunk will still get sacked, and a footballer who bets on his team to win or lose should get the same.
oH Jocky boy, are you still peeeesed that your "Should LL be banned" thread didn't go as you wanted it too?........shouldn't venture down dead end streets my friend. TOP DEFINITION wum It is an acronym meaning Wind-Up Merchant. It refers to someone who posts on message boards and newsgroups with the intention to cause as much disruption as possible by goading others. and your comments are trying to do what exactly?
imagine what would happen to Barton if he got sent off for serious foul play against, say, Palace at Selhurst Park ... then, as he is being escorted towards the tunnel, he turns around and kung fu kicks a Palace fan Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
you are, without a doubt now, a WUM .. your posts are becoming more and more illogical, and this latest "defence" of your frankly nonsensical "thinking" is typical WUM behaviour if you really believe that Wood is useless, Green is an oxygen thief, Monk should not be anywhere near a football pitch and Cellino is our king, then you shouldn't have to try and educate us on what a WUM looks like, because we see your rubbish every day if there was a serious poll about blocking you for, let's say three months, I would vote against you now, because you are clearly focused on annoying people rather than contributing Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
William, nice of you to wade in on this and jump on Jocks bandwagon, I see your hatred for me has become obsessive, never mind, it's irrelevant. You have automatically believed what Jock said, that's your hatred talking. Jock was wrong, he has a nasty habit of exaggerating and purposely taking things out of context and turning them around to suit himself so he can paint a black picture when he CHOOSES to attack me. 1) I never said Wood was useless, what I said was I don't rate him, and still don't. Yes I know he's scored 25 goals, 6 of those goals were penalties. I believe he's a 6 yard box scorer that relies on crosses and passes. He's also shown when he's marked out of the game he contributes very little, he can't lose his man and make his own goals, which he's going to have to do in prem. That's my opinion, and like everyone else on here, including you, I'm entitled to air that opinion. I know where this's come from, from the time Wood stuck his leg out and the ball deflected into the goal, and yes, I don't believe Wood guided the ball towards goal. Try taking a long stride like Wood did, then check your balance, then see if you can direct a ball towards goal. Did you see him swing his leg with the intention of shooting for goal, or did you see him take a long stride to try and stop the ball?.......You'll call it as you saw it, you're entitled too, I called it as I saw it. 2) I never said Green is an oxygen thief, nor have I ever said what Jock insinuated I said, I've never said Green was at fault for every goal. According to one of Greens profiles, Greens biggest weakness is his lapse in concentration, and he's shown that many times, goes way back to his England days and probably beyond. Greens pulled off some good saves, and saved us on a few occasions, I won't disagree with that, but so has Silvestri many many times. If I remember correctly, weren't you one of those that bashed Silvestri, the sick note six and Cellinos signing, does that mean there's one rule for you and one rule for everyone else, does it mean everyone should agree with your opinion; your mate Hopkins did that regular as clock work on JA, and then on here, can you see the similarities between you two?.....he ain't that popular on JA. Green has been caught out of position on a few occasions which have resulted in goals, he's also fumbled the ball resulting in a goal, he's also let in easy goals which he should've saved. The first one Burton scored he should've had, watch it and see how close to his left hand post he is. The Wolves goal, take a look at it, it trickled along the ground with hardly any power and it was close to Green, Green attempted a dive, but his feet never left their position, watch it. Now imagine where we would be had Green saved that goal, or saved those others he should've. He's not at fault for every goal like Jock accused me of saying, but he is for quite a few of'em in my opinion. 3) I've never been 100% behind Monk, there's something not quite right about him. I've never made any bones about it, I've let people on here know it, after all it's my opinion. He stumbled at start and stumbled at end, barring a miracle, and it's our defence that have kept us in most games this season, especially after Jansson arrived. Monk has played the same formation, the same style of play and picked the same players (when available) virtually all season, he's a one trick pony. I know you love Monk William, I know you like and rate Wood, I've read your comments and disagreed with many of them, but do you see me bullying, bashing and harassing you over it..............no you don't. 4) I like Cellino, always have, he doesn't take any crap. He's stood up too, and took on the FL and FA, he's steadied the ship financially, he put money into club when GFH wouldn't, he's paid the players wages when GFH refused too, he reduced the debt supposedly owed to GFH, he brought in new players from overseas, and quite a few were good, better than some in team at moment, most importantly he got rid of the deadwood and reduced our wages bill, he gave Monk free reign to bring in his own players Monk wanted, and he spent more money on buying some players, so on and so on. Any duds Monk brought in is Monks doing alone, not Cellinos. I know you hate Cellino, when he does something good for club you still hate him, but do you see me bashing, bullying and harassing you about it.......no you don't. Maybe you'd like to stand up and tell the forum why I'm not entitled to air my opinions and views without the bullying, bashing and harassment, then tell'em your justification for the bashing, bullying and harassment I always receive from you. Are you aware William, and a certain few others, the one who hates is the one in pain. There is a saying, if you can't take it, don't give it. I suggest you learn to understand the true meaning of "wind up merchant" and you are trying to do what exactly with your personal attacks?
oh please just fcuk off ... the fact that you state that you don't rate Wood means one of two things, you're a WUM or you're seriously thick ... seeing as you claim you're not a WUM, you can only be seriously thick ... not accepting that Wood is a very good player, our star man this season and probably going to the Prem for £15m is mind boggling, as you are the only person on the planet who seems to think this nope, colour it any way you want it, you are nothing but a WUM ... if I want to read rubbish about Leeds United then all I need to do is go onto the Scum board and say Fergie was a failure ... I do not need to come on the Leeds United board and find absolute idiotic nonsense posted about my club, specially when we are having a brilliant season, way beyond expectations your "arguments" are laughable, and just antagonistic ... I am willing to bet that if we signed Ronaldo and he scored 70 goals in a season you would not "rate" him simply because you are a WUM ... you are starting to skate dangerously close to Clivetime's icehole (see what I did there) PS. no, I didn't bash Silvestri or any of the six note six, because for me it was all speculation as to what happened ... I always support my team and players, unless given a genuine reason not to, so don't "claim" I do things without reading back first ... I expect you will no doubt spend the weekend trawling through all my posts to look for something to come back with, because that is what WUMs do PPS I don't hate Cellino, have never said so, more "Trump Truths" from you ... I believe Cellino did what he could, but he was way out of his depth at Leeds ... he is erratic, and his appointing Hockaday (remember him?) showed how impulsive and careless he can be ... I was willing to give Cellino a chance, he did what he felt was his best, but he is not the right man to lead our great club ... he is a megalomaniac who needs to go and run a small club in Italy where he understands the culture and he can behave as he pleases ... he is going, I thank him for his service, but his time is up
wood silvestri cellino green.on and on and on and on.all bloody season same old stuff.probably why some have you on the ignore feature.do i need to point out who this is aimed at.
