Theresa May is going for an election to 'strengthen. her hand....so she reckons.

Trouble is there are a multitude of reasons for people casting their vote in so many different ways.

She could come unstuck....win the election yet weaken her Brexit negotiations in the EU if she doesn't get a clear message from the people to do it her way.

The EU will hope she doesn't strengthen her position after June 8th....this could get messy.

    VOTE SHEZA!!!!!!!!!!

You keep clutching at straws plym you'll be ok don't worry. After several completely unbelievable votes so far recently I will state here and now that if May doesn't get a huge majority this time becauswe Corbin is a joke then I will leave this planet at the first opportunity. Even if I have to hi-jack the next Mars mission by force.

Remainers of all party allegiances in the traditionally non-conformist South West have a chance to give May a bloody nose by voting Liberal Democrat and reversing the big swing from Lib Dem to the Conservatives down here last time around.

Unfortunately the full horror of what's likely to happen to agriculture and fishing subsidies and to an extent the holiday industry through restricted seasonal immigration aren't yet clear, but then, that's why she's chosen to U-turn in favour of an election now.

The Lib/Dem's present policy in to disrupt the Government of this country for Theresa May and her Cabinet making the country ungovernable.....that must be touching on the edges of being a treasonable offence.....Tim Farron their leader is turning into a ranting hysterical cry baby.....who they need to replace as soon as they can....to give the voters a reasonable alternative to Tory/Labour dominance.....but people haven't yet forgiven them for supporting a Tory government for five years

Incorrect. The Lib Dems are the only ones seeking to restore Parliamentary democracy, which is what I thought the Leavers preferred to alleged government by diktat.

If May's already small majority can be reduced, then Davis, Letwin and Duncan-Smith can yet be brought to heel by the moderate majority.

May forgets that David Cameron had a reasonable expectation that the majority of Conservative voters were Remainers. This led him into the huge mistake of allowing a referendum. However, although the referendum was lost to a rag tag mob of Conservative extremists, superannuated Empire day-dreamers and motley racists from all major parties, he wasn't wrong in essence. It won't take many sensible Conservative voters to either not vote or, in Con/Lib Dem marginals, to vote for the latter rather than the former, to undermine May's position. They can do this in the knowledge that whatever happens, we won't see a Labour government but we can hope for a hung Parliament in which May can't throw her weight around.

I told you the country could become ungovernable at the time and we're seeing some of that now in Scotland and potentially in Northern Ireland, where an open border may prove more important than remaining in the UK. She's called the election and hope she'll face a very justified backlash.

I actually think the last election is an irrelevance to this one. This election has got nothing to do with who backed who then and I don't think the voters this time will be looking to punish anyone. I think they will be shocked, that is a lot of them anyway, at the way the Referendum ended up and will now try to vote the best way for the next stage they didn't want. Or have grown not to want at any rate because if there was another vote I believe it would be to remain. I doubt anyone will punish the Tories because now somebody has to negotiate leaving there is no way they would let Labour anywhere near it. As for the Libs I can seen them making a comeback to be honest. Everytime I hear Farron he sounds quite passionate and doesn't pile on a load of crap to his argument. Plain speaking if you like and a lot of people will like it for a change. UKIP are the ones who will disappear and sadly it will be a year too late. Safe to say the only way I definately will not be voting is Labour. Anyone having a punt on the Monster Raving Looney Party this time? The way votes have gone mad of late World wide would anyone be shocked.

Exactly - and moderate Labour Remainers who don't like Corbyn have also have the possibility of switching to the Lib Dems, who, being the only ones opposing the Tories at present, probably better represent their views than the far left cabal now in charge of their own party.

I admit I'd be voting for them only as a protest vote against Brexit but at least I can accept the Lib Dems are decent, well meaning people evem if I don't agree with a lot of their actual policies!

I see it's already been noted by the pundits that the South West is likely to see a swing back to the Lib Dems.

A Conservative party Information Officer Suzan Walsh has been exposed distributing a widely shared fake image of Jeremy Corbyn on Facebook.

It shows him on a door step canvassing a women who seems to be putting two fingers up to him.....in fact she was actually putting her fist up in support for him....but the picture has been doctored and shows two fingers up in front of him instead.

Clean fighting tactics from the start I see.

I see Corbyn has promised to repeal "vicious" anti union laws, presumably being those requiring union leaders to obtain a mandate from members before calling strikes.

He has to look after his mate McCluskey after all. Mutual back scratching all round.

I just sat through the BBC News and if that was a film it would have a great big X rating. I listened to a load of white middle to upper class twonks and their half brained ideas. That was this Country. Then there is that complete fecking idiot in Yankee land. Not to be outdone now we have Marina Le Pen in France to contend with. The whole political world has gone completely and utterly bonkers. Then you see the latest story about Africa and see the kids with skinny arms and legs laying there dying and hear the story of one woman who has travelled miles and miles to get away from troubles only to bury 7 kids and a husband on the way. She literally has nothing left. An idea might be to send all those prats out there with nothing but the clothes they stand up in and see how they get on. Absolutely fecking tragic stuff and even brought a tear to this gnarly old git's eye. And yes I know if we gave them everything they would be back to this state in 10 years so it solves nothing.

So now we have the Labour manifesto. Since no Brexiteer or apologist for Brexit is going to point out its obvious threats to our prosperity for fear of also drawing attention to the obvious perils of leaving the EU, I will.

The economy is dominated by the financial services sector and global natural resources and pharmaceuticals companies.

Particularly in financial services, which operates in a global business matrix rather than just headquartering various autonomous businesses around the world, there's a clear danger of relocation to New York, Frankfurt or Hong Kong if Brexit isolates the City from the rest of the world.

However, all large companies pay most of their tax in the countries in which they are listed and their headquarters are always inhabited by most of their highest paid individuals so there's not a lot to keep them in London apart from a benign tax regime.

So the Labour Party thinks that in a Parliament spanning Brexit, it's a good idea to:

    1) Raise Corporation Tax, which at present is low and a good reason to stay in the UK.

    2) Increase the Income Tax on high (i.e. > £80k and higher earners (at > £123k). In practice, once taxable non salary benefits are included, these are middle managers in most large companies, not City fat cats and there are lot of them, so the cost to business will be high.

    3) Introduce a separate levy on companies in respect of high salaries, 2.5% over £330k and 5% over £500k. Here they are at least starting to impinge on PLC directors but also on many senior managers.

    4) Unbelievably, to UNILATERALLY introduce a levy on derivative trading, a cornerstone of many City businesses. This is preposterous. Such a levy could be a good idea to damp down unfettered speculation in financial markets but only if applied simultaneously on all major financial centres across the world. To do it unilaterally on top of the other measures would more or less guarantee financial services companies departing from the City post Brexit.

If the levy applies to all derivatives, it will hit genuine businesses as well as speculation. For example, airlines buy fuel on the futures market which helps them mitigate spikes in oil prices. Holiday companies buy foreign currency futures which isolate them, and you, from changes in the value of the pound. Consumers will end up paying if that mechanisms are closed off. Incidentally, I read that one of the reason the MOD once again has a huge hole in its budget is that it DIDN'T hedge future purchases of aircraft in US dollars from Lockheed Martin and Boeing against falls in the value of sterling. Perhaps that signifies the Government doesn't understand what these things do....

Let's hope Corbyn is as unelectable as he looks.

The man is honest in his beliefs and desires....but he is living in a time warp and is using Dr Who's Tardis to get himself and his small band of supporters into a world that no longer exists.....the most united opposition to the Conservatives in the SNP.....who seem to have their own Tardis....taking them to the never never land of independence, trying to stay in the EU....but still wanting to use the pound sterling and not the Euro currancy.....UKIP have won their race and Farage realizes that and has left it to be run by Nuttall...who is trying to make the party disappear in one election......for me there is no one to vote for.....the only question is will Theresa May get a strong backing for brexit....so we don't get steamrollered by EU Federalists....who cannot recognize their own problems.

Well you would say that wouldn't you notdistant.............

I don't profess to understand a lot of the business stuff although in simple terms I do understand that raiding companies and picking on those that make jobs and money go round is not the way to encourage it to continue. I do get the option they all have to bugger off somewhere else and those that say it won't happen are just kidding themselves. It may not but it could. All you need to do is hire an office elsewhere on the planet and move staff in and carry on as you did before. If other Countries give them incentive and make it easy they will be off quicker than a flash. But, no matter what we think about the vote we had we are leaving the EU and no amount of manking about it is going to change that. I may not agree with the exit vote but I do accept it was democratically done. If it had been a stay vote then I would expect the exiteers to abide by that also. That is where I disagree with Lib Dems. He wants a vote on the deal when it is reached and of course if we don't like it then we can reject it. In essense that is just another referendum on staying in or leaving. It's too late for that.

This election is a bit of a bummer. Corbyn is unelectable, the Lib Dems ain't gonna cut no mustard and UKIP is a done party. That leaves May and whilst I'm not kean on her either if honest but there is little choice. I can see the Tories sweeping to victory this time round and it is the electorate getting what they deserve and they can blame nobody but themselves for it.

I'm surprised that nobody has commented on the latest resumption of electioneering. The most stupid thing I've heard so far is that Corbyn has blamed the people of Manchester for their own bombing. All that angst from the other parties because he stated the obvious. If you have a foreign policy that includes bombing and fighting foreign peoples then those peoples are more likely to pick on you if they can and retaliate. Whilst I am no lover of labour and Corbyn I don't see how firstly you can fault his logic on this and secondly where he actually said it was their own fault. And they accused him of making political capital out of the tragedy.

The more I've watched the goings on the more I've started to think that he could actually catch up to May and even get elected. Talk about taking the electorate for granted and thinking you can just introduce anything you like because the opposition are dead ducks. I can see a hattrick of stupid votes within a year of votes. Time to start up the rocket engines and head for some other planet I think.
