Yes, but it appears we won't get a new squad until Jurgen gets his chosen players. but we won't get them until we get CL, but we won't get CL with this squad...

It's an aggressive system but it's not the systems fault for Lovren rushing out 2-3 times and missing each time. It's not the systems fault that Milner isn't a left back and is postionally unaware. It's not the systems fault that Matip loses concentration numerous times.

It's the personnel. We wont win **** until it's sorted. We lost the title in 13/14 because of the defence. We could now bottle top 4 because of the same reason.

Our attack was awful today but we still scored, should have had a penalty, Can missed a great chance and Firmino was practically in. One goal is enough to win any match. It may not be pretty but 3 points are 3 points. And our defence, in particular one man, cost us that.

Thing is, we don't rely on them because Klopp waited so long to bring them on.

Lovren appears to be following instructions since all 4 first choice defenders do it regularly -matip less so but he is often too far away to do so.
Seriously Jim this feels like groundhog day for some of us . Crap system* = crap defence pretty much irrespective of personnel.

    *this includes midfield

Palace didn't create much but as most teams often do, they rely on individual errors to score against us. We make it so easy.

We give very little away - but we offer the easiest chances ever.

It has been a pretty awful new year. Apart some periods of relief, the team has shown that the bench is simply not good enough for a top side. I am not sure Klopp can see that.

We have to hope that City beats Utd on Thursday or even a draw. Our GD advantage has been reduced to almost nothing and the mancs will come neck and neck with us if they beat City. With their strike force coming into form, it is not impossible anymore.

yep - but the system leaves us wide open unless we play cautious gainst a top team. We would probably won if at 1-0 we had played as if we were playing Man City

PS i so want to break something but since i'm at home it will be mine so better not <grr>

Yup, Can. How in the hell could he just let Benteke walk round him into the middle of the area and lean forward to head a goal, he had both his arms behind him to touch Benteke then just stood and watched him wander off.

What puzzles me is that back in December we played mediocre against the ****e and City, but they never got a sniff because we looked rock-solid. I thought we'd turned a corner. We changed the team to play Sunderland and gave away two pens - after that we reurned to a back four of Beaker from The Muppets, the Double-take brothers, and the cowardly lion from The wizard of Oz. But, and i repaet, we did not see fit to buy or loan ONE defender in Jan.

A draw would put both teams in with a chance of going above you to leave you in 5th.

Overall, this season has been a huge let-down, despite beating the top six.

Going out of the trophies was soft, and considering we were in the finals of both the League and Europa League last season, the Mancs winning the first and probably winning the second this season will piss me right off the planet.

We've lost to teams we should have beaten simply because the defence has been gash and we haven't done enough up front. We can't seem to function without Mane or Lallana. We've relied on players who are quite frankly bang average - and we see flickers of quality from your Mignolets and Cans and suddenly they're all that. Well, I'm sorry, they're not. I'm sick and tired of Sturridge and his endless bloody injuries. It's clear he doesn't want to know so he should just piss off now.

If we get top 4 it will be seen as an improvement but we won't get any further with that quiz of a squad.

Will give the defence a reprieve (for now) - but without Mane, we have no one out wide who can utilise 1v1 situations. Our wide players and full backs get in great position but we just can't do much with it.

There are significant flaws with our team which have existed for a number of years now.

The entire back line should be upgraded with Clyne and Matip being squad players. The rest can be easily binned off.

The midfield can keep possession but cannot dictate tempo, create or play through teams. Most of our goals this season come from nicking the ball back high up the pitch. We need playmakers in midfield who offer more than just engine and occasional creative spark. Gini and Can provide the engine bit but we have no one who can create from deep.

Taking a team like Barca as an example - they have the best attack in the world but it's not just those 3 players who help them score. They have a midfield that can keep the ball or get it to the attack quickly and in the right areas.

What's really annoying is that most of the problems with our squad have existed for years, pretty much ever since Rodgers became manager. It's just that they've been masked at times by quality attacking players.

We choose to play a certain way that makes us predictable for counter attacking teams to play against. We don't have any quality midfielders that can exploit deep lying teams. We choose to get rid of any striker that could potentially be a plan b in these games because they don't fit in said system, and it comes back to bite us in the arse because these exact same players are equipped to exploit our defensive weaknesses.

I honestly think that FSG treat our defence as an afterthought which is why we have only ever, at best, invested in Europa league standard defenders under their ownership.

A draw at home is disappointing, losing is a disaster.

Therin lies the problem. What is the point of having a like for like replacement on the bench when the first choice isn't working, you need something different to change a game or, to start a game in a different way against certain opposition.
