It certainly has it's dangers under certain conditions and therefore will need strict regulation and I think 21 should be the age. I just read an article where a leading educator said that nothing is taught in school because they won't approach any illegal subject. He believes that when it becomes legal the schools will open up their curriculum to include drug common sense, although he thinks today's youth are starting to get the message on the use of drugs. A sound mind is needed by regulators and users.

When my son was at school, dealers would sell stuff to the kids over the school gate. I think it needs to be discussed in schools now, so kids understand the effects and potential problems that it can lead to. One thing that my sons generation does not understand is in moderation, therein lies the problem.

I did it when I was younger and was a smoker. I did come unstuck on one occasion when someone had cut it with LSD which was an experience....

But it undoubtedly has medicinal properties and a former co-worker had a Wife with severe MS who found it a big pain reliever when she was alive.

I hope your son has recovered ok RedHub.
I am lucky that (as far as I know) none of my kids have fallen for the weed - or worse, although they did smoke some of it (as did I) when at Uni.

like many young uns teens and immature minded young men they will fall out with parents, and like many young uns they will admit 2 the lesser of what they've been taking>>>>>>>so more lies will lead 2 a doctor treating a patient for cannabis(right up propagandas street) when in fact it may have been a natural cause or something else(chemical drugs).................is it only people who smoke or use cannabis that have mental disorders.......the answer is NO......in fact if you do a little research(not that you will) you will see that cannabis is used as a treatment for mental disorder. <laugh>......its a funny old world init.

Speaking as a lay-about musician, I have in the past found it to be extremely useful for setting the creative mood and triggering short but intense periods of creative inspiration (at very important times when much money was at stake). In fact I would say my best works have been written under that influence, as I am sure many composers would say the same. I can't think of one rock band from the golden age of British music that didn't use it to varying degrees.
Having said that, the mantra has always been USE IT. DONT LET IT USE YOU.

So i regard it as a pleasant tool for my trade.
But only use what God gave you, and don't make it a career !

all the best musicians have been influenced through drugs dude but not only musicians writers also claim a deeper thought process>>>>>>>>the best evidence for the music side is the 60`s and 70`s era when the shackles of tory/Christian rule was ignored>>>>>>>then the propaganda started and we got back into our box........the 80`s were a result of this oppression and alcohol violence ruled the streets, all this anger and descent was dealt with by a Nazi style police force.....since then its been pretty much stale with a numb dumb selfish nation following the centre 2 right Christian bul;lsh.it

you do get odds and sods speaking truths these days but most is soul less money grabbing recycled garbage.......

immortal technique and the Sleaford mods are two of the truth speakers out there.....defo worth a listen

Sounds like he could be one of those unlucky people who is susceptible to addiction or over-indulgence.
I have known a few of these - and they have given me more frustration in this life than pretty much any other because they are invariably highly talented and outrageously creative but also hopelessly dysfunctional. And you desperately want them to realise their dreams but their propensity for self-destruction always steps in to stop it happening.
Rather than worrying about the drug/drink issues, it could be that psychological counselling might clear the way forwards. Many hide behind drugs/drink rather than go full pelt at life, and i have seen that one before too. But I am no psychiatrist
    Good luck RedHub

Thanks. I have suggested counselling but it is down to him to admit there is an issue in the first instance. His sister is very ill and has been for a long time and I think this has had a profound effect on him and the rest of the family. I dont judge, but its also difficult to stand by when you know your kid is on a slippery slope.

It's about time that the drugs laws were completely reviewed to be honest. Cannabis is always the classic example, and there's no doubt that it can and does cause negative effects, but let's face it, is it any worse than alcohol?

MDMA/ecstasy is the bizarre one for me. It's a (relatively) new drug so the long-term effects are debatable, but it really does have massive benefits, and has been used to treat depression and PTSD, including in trials on the NHS. Plus if you get 100% pure stuff it's ****ing incredible <laugh>, yet it's a Class A drug. It is obviously no good if you get dodgy stuff which is very often the case, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with a heart condition, but when you put it up against cocaine, heroin and alcohol, it doesn't even compare in the damage it can do to you. Go to a club with everyone drunk v a club with everyone high and see which one requires the most Police intervention.

nowt wrong with real MDMA dude, the same as there`s nowt wrong with quality mary jane...........lets be honest here, everything has some kinda effect on us.......is the air we breath or the water we drink good for us these days>>>>>>>>the answer is no, so its up or should be up 2 the individual if adult 2 make his/her/it decision based on risks >>>>>>>>>simples really.

ps cannabis is not and will never be in the same league as alcohol when it comes 2 major negative effects, that's for sure
