There's a great Glen Campbell documentary that crops up on BBC4 on Friay nights detailing the Jimmy Webb/Glen Campbell relationship. Worth watching.
I was about 10 and clothed head to toe in polyester and nylon. I was positively charged every day but [ec]static about these 2 records. In 3 years everything was so different. Glam and fun became Punk and righteous anger. What will the Trump/Brexit years bring forth?
Hey ho let's go This was a big hit in the U.S. Dee Dee nicked the opening refrain for "Blitzkrieg Bop". Not many people know what a contribution the Rollers made to punk rock's first single!
The Rollers were musicians, not boy band puppets like we are led to believe (because of the association of boy bands with blueprint for the type of band which would appeal to the teen market in later years). They did a lot of covers, but some of the songs were great choices - for example "Bye Bye Baby", which was an old Four Seasons number, although Les McKeown was never going to match Frank Valli's vocal range! The Ramones took their musical cues from the past too - rock'n'roll, surf, garage, Phil Spector girl groups; they just stripped to sound down to its rawest form - and played it at breakneck speed. Not many realise that the Ramones took inspiration from The Bay City Rollers and wanted to do the same sort of singalong songs.....
A spot of 'borrowing' going on here? Holly's right leg has a very 'Strummer' look to it. 'There's little new or really innovative in Rock and Roll.
