The Slipper went to She Will Reign. It's drawn 6 from the outside and is in mostly white. She crosses to the fence and rails up along the back. https://www.racingandsports.com.au/...ign-wins-the-2017-golden-slipper-story-397637
The G1 Hong Kong Derby was run today with Rapper Dragon going into the race a 4-5 chance. He was looking to be the first horse to take the Classic Mile, Classic Cup and the Derby. Pakistan Star ran his usual race. He settled last and came with a late charge, but by then Joao Moreira was off and gone on Rapper Dragon. The winner is in the two blues with red v. He's No1 and midfield on the fence. The Magic Man had 5 winners on the day.
Todd Pletcher's Malagacy wins the G2 Rebel Stakes. A possible Derby chance? No6 in the red and green.
Probably not this year Ron. Royal Ascot director of racing, Nick Smith has has been trying to get the mare to Ascot for a couple of years now, but the prize money here is keeping her at home. To date she's won over AU$10,000,000 in stakes and looks to have a lot more in her sights. Winx will start a "warm" favourite in the AU$4,000,000 G1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick in about three weeks. Nick Smith is hopeful Winx can visit Ascot next year.
Looks like your horses change age on Sep 1st. Is that right Cyc? I see she was born in September which would mean that when she was officially 2 she would have been exactly 2. Unusual. We don't have horses born in January (that I know of). To think she was beaten 6 races in 10 as a 3yo and won one of those in a 4 way photo. Just shows what a difference another year or 2 makes. Most of our top horses are retired before they have matured. Maybe it's because they are early maturers and there's a chance of being exposed by late maturers if they stay in training. And/or our top 2 and 3yos are pushed so hard before fully developed that they wouldn't be able to stand another year's racing at top level. Interesting.
Aug 1 mate. She didn't really begin to shine until the latter part of her 3yo season, when she was put over a bit of ground. That's what makes her sprint form at her age so amazing.
From the dress rehearsal a couple of weeks ago Don, you probably wouldn't to backing anything that gets a bit back on the dirt. Leaders won all four dirt races.
The North American sensation Arrogate, looks to have something of a strangle hold on the World Cup. The winner of the Pegasus is presently quoted at 2-5 for the race. But there is a huge push for his fellow American, Gun Runner. Connections were keen on a Pegasus start but fell foul of race officials after refusing to subject the horse to a nasal swab for a virus sweeping the area. I don't know the story, but both sides said the horse tested negative to what I suppose was an unofficial swab. Anyway the horse put down a blistering 6 furlong trial before being sent to Dubai. Last up he had a huge win in a G3 and before that, a very nice victory in a G1. He probably won't be able to beat Arrogate, but if the champ puts a foot wrong, then maybe Gun Runner can make him pay. He's 10-1. He's in maroon and white.
Today the wonderful mare Jameka took her earnings to over AU$5,500,000 when she made a one act affair of the 2400m G1 BMW in Sydney. She's in race 6 and leads the field up behind the tearaway leader. There's talk that she may go to Ascot. http://racing.racingnsw.com.au/FreeFields/Results.aspx?Key=2017Mar25,NSW,Rosehill Gardens
G1 Longines Dubai Sheema Classic. 2400m. Jack Hobbs is one hell of a beast. He had this won a long way out. And the blue army rolls on.
And then there's Arrogate. He walked out of the stalls, settled last and let his chief North American rival Gun Runner have his own way at the head of the field. Mike Smith began to ask small questions of Arrogate with about six furlongs to run. He brought the horse five and six deep and inched his way toward the front. For a few seconds at the top of the straight, I wondered whether his run would begin to fade. Gun Runner bolted clear but was unlucky enough to run into a monster. Arrogate, 2017 Dubai World Cup victor. Is there a better horse racing today???
Nice to see Japan show up with a nice filly. The Dubai Turf went to the Joao Moreira ridden Vivlos, the winner of the 2016 Shuka Sho. A cracking ride by the magic man it was too. The tiny filly settled third last on the fence. Moreira hauled her up along the fence as they turned for home, and looked for splits with the whip in his left hand. Once in the open his changed whip hands to keep her honest, then drove her on. She's in the light and dark blue with white arm bands.
Crikey. Looked to have no chance. I thought I must be watching the wrong one. In case you're wondering if I can't sleep Cyc, I've just got in. Grandson went off at 4am on a skiing trip with his school. 84 of them
A perfect demonstration of crap commentary. Who was doing the call Cyc? Not only a mundane voice but also completely missed Arrogate making ground around the outside and only spotted him when he was up to 3rd. Saw him fall out of the gate and then ignored him. Simon Holt would've done a much better job.
