I'd be embarrassed if i was Tony Bellew with his performance against Haye, he fought a one legged man for nearly half the fight, couldn't put him away surely you can't take too much pride in that. As for Haye, please retire it was very sad to see, even before the injury he was very slow and his timing was non existent. 5 years ago he'd have walked through an average fighter like Bellew so its time to bow out. As far as the rumours of him being skint, i'm under the impression they are just that, rumours. Word is he's actually a very wealthy man and quite the business man outside the ring. This big return he hyped up is just about being in the limelight and having the attention he craves, that ought to go away with the Bellew defeat but unfortunately there's people out there who will still pay to watch a rematch and he might just get it.

A friend of mine went to the Kovalev/Ward fight and on the Friday night he went to a small(er) boxing show promoted by non other than the great Roy Jones Jnr. My mate got him to sign a flyer of the fight card and brought it back for me, cool bit of memorabilia for my collection.

Wow, Roman Gonzalez loses his title against Sor Rungvisai. A hotly disputed points win sent the stadium into overdrive. Not a popular decision. Compubox had Gonzalez in front by a wide margin. Next up GGG v Jacobs.

My oh my, Danny Jacobs can't win the belt even if he beats GGG. The rules stipulate that a fighter can weigh no more the 10 pounds above the division maximum weight when he steps into the ring. Golovkin is 10 over, Jacobs wouldn't weigh in today so can't win the belt. Insiders from the Jacob camp say he is 20 pounds over.

Only a matter of minutes now. Can't wait.

GGG is a hard fought fight. It looked as though Jacobs maybe has a gripe, but I dunno. It was close.

Sometimes it just ain't your day. After taking what was I think, a regional IBF International Heavyweight Title in his last bout, young Adrian Granat from Sweden stepped into the ring last Saturday against the Russian journeyman Alexander Dimitrenko, a man who'd copped a flogging from Joe Parker, and found himself counted out in the first round. He was expected to make short work of Dimitrenko, but the wheels fell off big time. Granats in the black and Dimi is in the red.

They both looked pretty rubbish to me. Surely neither are ranked, are they?

Granat was IBO 14 and WBC 22. There were high hopes for him. But you have to wonder now.

Looks like Ward - Kovalev 2 might be in Vegas on June 17.

The big Linares - Crolla 2 bout in Manchester this weekend could be one for the fans. Hopefully lots of action. Both men have worked their arses off and say they've never been better prepared for the WBA Lightweight Title fight. If Linares' word can be banked, he'll be hard to beat again. He's done a 150 rounds of sparing. He's been reported as saying that he's done 30 miles of road work per day at an altitude of "9,000 miles." I think he got a bit mixed up there, but I get the picture. <laugh>

    Betting.

    6-11 Linares.
    2-1 Crolla.

On 14 June, 1934, Jethro's dad Max Baer climbed into the ring to challenge for the world heavyweight title. His opponent, the Italian giant Promo Carnera, the man who 11 months before, had knocked out Jack Sharkey in the 6th. Carnera out weighed Baer by 53 pounds. The ref was crap.

This one I remember from my younger days when there was a lot of amateur boxing on TV. Go to 1min50secs for the start of this (apparent) mismatch

As we all know, after his historic win over David Haye, Tony Bellew's fight path has been pretty much thrown up in the air. It appears that due to his hand injury, he won't be seen in the ring for at least 6 months. But where does he go? Stay at Cruiserweight or stay with the big boys? Right now, he's a white hot commodity and as such will likely stay heavy and take the serious cash if it comes his way. Who can blame him, even if he takes a pounding? By the way he's talking, he may not be in the trade for too much longer.

For the reasons above, the WBC board of governors has decided to life his full belt and designate him as the emeritus champion. This means that the full title now becomes vacant, but allows Bellew, with the full support of the WBC, the option of getting first crack at the title when and if he wants it. Now that the title is up for grabs, the bout between Mairis Briedis and Marco Huck on April 1 in Dortmund takes on a whole new meaning. It's now for the full WBC Cruiserweight Championship. Huck has won 15 world title fights at the weight, lost 2 and drawn 1. Briesis has won the IBA twice and is the current WBC Silver Champ. It has the makings of a nice fight.
