Erdogan blocks social media sites from time to time but there's no doubt that technology is enabling people to understand more of the world which enables them to shape their own ideas.

I know someone who works in Cheltenham for the government and the politicians are seriously under funding our security forces right now. Our cyber counter terrorism capabilities are woeful apparently. Luckily we have uncle sam in our corner.

<laugh> You just have to laugh at the arrogance of some at times on internet forums. The sanctimonious "I'm right and more worldly wise, you're wrong" bullshit is for someone else fella. You have an opinion. You're entitled to it but don't forget that's all it is. You pontificating that you can predict the future better than anyone else. Quite simply, you can't.

My ideology is not at all based on what I see here in the UK. Everybody can see what is happening around the world. Its a small place these days. Everyone can see the population growth.

Take a small example of the counter to these issues. What has slowed down population growth in certain areas? Education. Look at the examples of Iran, The Matlab experiment in Bangladesh, Rwanda. Family planning intervention in these areas showed what can be achieved in very short periods through education. That is one small example. You're making a number of assumptions that population growth will go unchecked.

Part of the reason for population growth, as it was here in the high of the 60's, is the development in terms of infrastructure, health service etc. i.e. improvement in living conditions resulted in a spike in population growth. We haven't continued simply growing at the same rate though have we? Indeed growth in developed countries has dropped significantly and is still rapidly slowing down. People are making the assumption, rightly or wrongly that population growth in areas such as sub Saharan will go unchecked. This is not necessarily the case.

Its is also linked to the old Malthusian debate. More people. Does it equal unlocked minds or mouths to feed? I believe in unlocked minds. You're also assuming that irreligious and atheist beliefs will never take hold in any area as they have here and most other developed countries. So as these countries develop, as they educate and advance technologically, they won't change? I don't believe that. It is just very hard to see it in the micro time period we look at now. That checking of growth will likely result in a completely different dynamic to what some are predicting now.

This needs to be really talked about without all the Racism bullshit that gets thrown around everytime these issues come up, to often we hear politicians talk about dialogue with the communities which means nothing because nobody is actually talking about the hard things, we all know that the authorities were weak with the **** that went on in Rotherham because they were more concerned with causing upset than protecting the kids that were being abused, but this is happening everywhere. There are no easy answers but the way in which the whole structure of our public services work prohibits any steps forward being taken along with the political mindset, we have fallen into a trap where anything that is given a status as a minority is set up as being beyond criticism and legislation is being used to silence any question that doesn't meet the accepted view. We need to question all those that stand to lead from councils upwards, not just accept.

I have noticed that you do come across as quite arrogant in most of your comments, you cite some small areas of research whilst ignoring the macro realities, by the way Iran is not Sub Saharan, Rwanda the population in the 32 years since Live Aid in 1985 has gone from around 6 million to 12 million, so doubled not really slowed down. Population growth during the 60's in the UK didn't slow down in the way in which you presume, in 1960 the population stood at 51.39 million, in 1970 54.35 million, in 1980 54.7 million, in 1990 57.11 million, in 2000 58.86 million, it took 40 years for the population to grow 7.5 million, it only took 17 years since 2000 for the population to grow by over 6.5 million. You also cite Bangladesh as an example of what can be achieved in birth control, again using Live Aid as a control point in 1985, population then 92.8 million, 2016 population 162.9 million, great not doubled but only 70 million higher and growing. Iran population 1985 47.1 million, 2016 80.04 million.

Population growth will go on unchecked the current fertility rate in many African countries in the sub Saharan regions is over 6 children per fertile women, even when you look at South America there is on average growth of 30% to 35%, Canada since 1985 has gone from 25.32 million to 36.28 million, here's a real kicker in 1985 the world population stood at 4.808 billion, in 2016 7.432 billion, birth rates are exponential, the only way to bring them down is by increasing the death rate, education doesn't change this nor does technology unless you sterilise mass population through technological means, how horrible is that thought.

You think I am wrong but in 20 to 30 years time when the population pressure has increased further we will see, I will probably be dead by then as I am already in my 50's, we live in a country that has high levels of technology and education but we talk daily about the reality that our ability to cope with a rising population is compromising our ability to serve the needs of our current population, the NHS is not coping we all know that but how many more will it take before we have collapse, 2 million more, 3, 4 or just 1 million.

    Final thought, I'm not laughing.

I agree that people need to stop throwing insults at the other side when they discuss these matters - whether that be calling each other racists or liberal ****tards. In my opinion we need to look at the reasons why so many people are so easily radicialised. I am with Hank on the issue of education, and think dealing with the world in such a way as to make the non-west less of a place people people want to leave or feel hard done by living in would help. I know not everyone will agree though. Ultimately we are dealing with human beings. Some of them do inhumane things. But they are no different to us other than what they are taught and the opportunities life has presented them.

There is only one person in this entire thread coming across as arrogant and all knowing. I can fully accept I may be proved completely wrong. You seem to struggle with that. You cannot predict the future accurately, mainly because of the plethora of factors which will form it. Many of which are unknown to you or me or anyone else for that matter.

One thing not in dispute is the rapid decrease in our population growth rate. Population is increasing - but the rate is not. It is common sense population will in a developed world and then slow down. The likelihood is we will at some stage outgrow this planet or quite possibly destroy it with nowhere to go. You cannot fight against this. The only way to prevent this would be restrictions being but in place around birth control etc. That could well be the case in the future, it could be even more of a police state at some point as we reach saturation point. The point is we will adapt along the way.

Or perhaps a large war will do the job and wipe billions off the planet. That is humans adapting naturally also.

Final thought, I am laughing and enjoying every day

If these cowardly ****s want to really fight... we should arrange for 50 SAS and 250 of those spineless pricks to meet in a field and sort it out man to man... but they won't.... terrorists hide in the shadows like cockroaches.

Well I thought about inventing a bacon gun to fire rashers at high speed across their front lines... and then a bacon cluster bomb where we can drop a couple of tonne of ASDA smartprice bacon** on their command HQ. If it has no effect on them then we know 100% that they are just using Islam, a peaceful religion for their evil ends and they aren't really followers of the faith. It would be a massive PR hit for them too as the world will see through their bullshit facade of fighting a so called holy war.*

*no offence to any Muslims reading this but I'm trying to use gallows humour to make a point.
**we can pull together a coalition of the willing and also ask Aldi and Lidl for their out of date bacon

    http://data.worldbank.org/indicator/SP.POP.GROW#
    http://www.worldometers.info/world-population/

A couple of interesting websites regarding population growth and saturation levels of particular areas. What is clear is that the saturation of certain areas will not be able to continue. Hopefully the world will right itself with a large world event which wipes out the necessary numbers. If not a big war should do it.

Clearly there will be a point where certain doors have to be closed. Looking at he saturation map there are a lot of unexploited areas which need to be sorted.

There is a big area in South American we could start with. Probably have to get rid of a few trees...

Fredor needs a few neighbours too.

Or perhaps we'll all just live in the sky like Total Recall. Those pesky old people driving vehicles could be a nightmare though.

The moral of the story is stop ****ting yourself and enjoy today <cool><cheers>
