Always loved the old story from history of a peasant woman putting-up Alfred for the night, asked him to look-after some cakes she was cooking, forgot about them and burnt the lot. The fable goes that she gave him a right old bollocking!

The clip below has opened up some serious debate about what exactly happened. Seems it was poorly designed. Watch for the vertical tail section.

Quote. "You can see he kicked in the rudder for a knife edge right before the rudder rips off. I guess he did not figure there would be that much force in it. Still very shoddy construction, like the whole thing went to pieces in the air from just the rudder ripping off and a little extra force on the wing. Hopefully they pull his over sized turbine certificates, he has no business endangering people, building large aircraft with no real world engineering knowledge." Bill Parn.

I can't be sure Oddy, but it looks like Ludovic Woerth is dead. He and two other fliers misjudged where they were to jump from a chopper. Instead of exiting over a gorge, they jumped over flat ground and with only seconds to spare, couldn't open their chutes in time. All three died.

While we're on the ya ya folk, how about these two blokes? 139mph in skis. If I can get my zimmerframe glued onto a ski, I might have a crack at it.

Today I was in one of those massive underground car parks, the ones with the speed bumps that are supposed to stop speeders. An elderly lady approached one and began to ease her car over it. As she did so, a middle aged bloke with long, straggly hair and one of those leather, wide brimmed hats, was forced to go just wee bit slower than he wanted. In utter frustration he yelled top note. "For ****'s sake." It made me wonder at how precious his time must be, that he'd react in such a way, at the loss of a few insignificant seconds in his life.

I've just read, according to the UN, that you guys in the UK are only half as happy we Australians. I'm sorry that your lives are so bloody miserable. The old adage says that every cloud has a silver lining, but because I hold you good folk in such high regard, I feel I must point out that every so often, there's a big, ****in' stormy one right behind it. <laugh>

<laugh> Well, things ain't that bad in Europe, Cyc. Twice in my life had the chance to (1) become a Canadian citizen and (2) to move to Houston after being offered a permanent job there. Took neither, as I never felt completely comfortable in North America, not for the rest of my life anyway. I have had many people who have never been to Canada tell me all about the country, and have always tried to clarify things. Vancouver excepted, it is a bloody cold place for over 8-months of the year, and, most importantly, it is a damn fine country if one is in full employment and, even better, if one is a highly-qualified professional. To get laid off in Canada is a catastrophe. I was very lucky as I was learning my business and sometimes wonder how the hell I managed. With just a four-month gap in the UK, I went from working in Nigeria to emigrating to Canada (only way to work there was to emigrate). Great country, but bloody tough at times.

Oh, here's the latest statistics on "The Happiest People In The World" for your digestion! (Take a Rennie while reading it - :emoticon-0100-smile). More bloody cold countries, Norway, Iceland, etc.!! Iceland???!!!

Lukas Podolski makes his last appearance for Germany in tonight's international against England. Always had great talent but, personally, don't think he ever reached his full potential. Plays in Turkey nowadays.

Quite a character too, once came out with the classic "Football is like a game of chess.......without the dice!" :emoticon-0100-smile

Think every football fan in Germany (and maybe from Arsenal as well) will be wishing him well for the future; Lukas will be missed!

Fantastic, BayernKenny, many thanks! Düsseldorf just cannot live with Köln. Here's one from a favourite Kölscher group of mine, Die Höhner, doing "Steh auf, mach laut!":

The image below sums up the rivalry between Koln and Dusseldorf.

    Alt2.jpg

Before Easyjet flights to Munich and Germanwings flights to Koln my Mum and I would fly via Birmingham to Dusseldorf. Loved the many and varied pubs in the Altstadt especially one which played requests; Led Zeppelin and others suited me very well! Always remember a great Spanish restaurant, a typical 'Gastatte' and the main tourist eatery right on the riverfront. D'dorf fell out of our plans when the direct flights came into operation.

One of our favourite 'bookies' was in D'dorf's Altstadt. During one of our visits the family had just had their first child so they put on a smashing hot and cold buffet plus beer on tap for their customers; cannot imagine such provision in a UK bookmakers.
