Selective Austerity... http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/mps-pay-rises-ipsa_uk_58b017f5e4b0780bac284111
A nervous couple of hours watching my local team hold on for a 2-1 win, and now go second in the table. It is almost as bad as watching Watford. The ref was not good. A defender just about caught the ball in his own penalty area, looked embarrassed before dropping it and kicking it away. and the ref didn't see it despite only being a few metres away. Oh well, I suspect he did his best.
Good morning all from a wet and windy Weston-super-Mare! Have a good day and very good luck to your Golden Boys!
That tie went to a 3rd replay - I was at the first game and the 2 home replays. When you think that that was on the Tuesday after the original match, then there was a league game on the Saturday after, then the 2nd replay on the Monday with extra time and then the third replay on the Wednesday. That's 5 games in 12 days, with 2 going to extra time and look at the pitch and there wasn't the big squads there are now. Look at how close the photographers are to the touchline at the Rookery End.
I was at all of those games. First game ended in a draw and my Dad said: "I suppose we better see the reply!" He couldnt wriggle out of the second replay having said what he'd said about the first draw, so we went to that. Then the next draw! It became a bit of an obsessive thing for my family - we had to see it to a conclusion. I remember their ground very well. Well, the away section anyway. No roof, not very deep. And the Watford fans in very amusing form. Is it just me or do we not get wits at football these days? People used to shout really funny things. We were constantly laughing as I remember.
Reminded me of happy days Andy so tx for that. My Nan lived in Benskin Road so first Fish and Chips with Nan then a few hundred yards to the Vic. Tuesday and Wednesday nights, raining and cold come to mind. Maybe in the lower ranks the crowds were even quieter than today and you could hear the comments. But I remember some good jokers in the crowd. Many not the sort of things you'd share with your mum when you got home, and some I didn't understand, but funny nonetheless
On a similar note but different game. I hazily remember going to a game, it being called off due to a frozen pitch and the next time the game was scheduled it was floodlight failure, needless to say my old man was fuming having driven us both times from Hatfield. What game was that? My memory isn´t what it used to be...
I really love the internet, and consider it to be one of the best inventions made available to the general public in my lifetime. It allows me to keep in contact with friends, do research in my own home, talk about random interests such as football, and watch Watford play their matches. However with so many good things there is a down side. Tonight I had mail from my ISP asking me to fill in a survey about my internet speed and service in general, and was I happy with it. Complete the survey and I could have a rebate of €120 on my bills, or another great offer. €120 off the bills is not to be sneezed at so I started. Half a dozen questions and a thank you. No money off my bills but an Apple iphone 7 was mine for just €1, but hurry, there are only three left. I don't want one, but a friend does after he left his on top of his wood burner, had his son light it, and melted the phone. Moving on I find they want my e-mail address, something that my ISP knows as they gave it to me, and my bank details so they can take the €1 for the phone. The ISP also has those details, so why would they want them again? The OFH nose started to twitch at this point, and by a little research discovered that this mail did not come from the ISP at all, but an unknown company. Something that is good once again has people corrupting it, and I am sure that some will have been fooled into handing over details of their bank accounts. As fast as one scam is closed down another pops up. Shame that some don't employ their brains to do some decent job rather than take money from others.
Maybe we should have a scam thread so people can post details of what to look out for as ways people try to get money is ever changing.
Morning all from a bright, but blustery rural France. Rain forecast for later in the day, so do I get and clean Mme's car today, or wait until nearer Friday when it has to go and have the two year test? It is now 20 years old, but has not yet done 60,000 miles showing how little she uses it for going on a long run. It looks fine and goes really well, but then I don't know what will happen when they put it on their equipment that tries to shake it apart. Seems as if I will have to give it a good going over as it looks as if it has been used across a muddy field, and she has taken some of the mud inside.
Morning all. Very grey and very wet here. Mrs H is coughing and spluttering...not at anything I've done I hope...so cooking duties are mine today.
