In the past it has somewhat irked me that some on here have slagged off players and said they know much better than others in terms of what makes a good player and what doesn't. Or which players are past it and which aren't. The truth is, there are many different qualities that go into being a good footballer. It's not just about one aspect, it's about several. Mackie has visibly and materially brought a positive change to the matchday team. Not only did he score the winner last night but his presence has brought greater veracity in matches and better determination. The football has improved on his watch and we now have 3 wins in a row (thanks to his goal last night). I'm not at all suggesting it's all down to him, because it requires teamwork and determination from all (including Ollie). But I think it's time that those who have long claimed that Mackie is useless, past it and rubbish to eat a bit of humble pie and give him a bit of praise. And perhaps this is a reminder that, as supporters, we should spend less time judging our players and being grumpy ****ers and more time supporting them.
Mackie is exactly what we need now. Attitude and work-rate 1st class. But he probably has found his level in this division
Sometimes things happen for a reason. He'd been out of action for a while and in that time Ollie came in, some players left, and he found himself some space to play, and found renewed vigour after having been out for so long, and voilà! As if the pot's been stirred just right for some magic and it's his time to shine. Lets hope he can keep going this way for a while and stays with us and becomes an Rs legend.
i thought he was sensational last night and should be made captain ,his aggression and desire were all that qprs youngsters needed to set them off and make them catch fire because of his non stop drive and never ending nessessaty to tire hes an icon and a blast from the past lets steal a pirate ship and fly a qpr flag from its mast the captain will be non other than ellers whos struggles to take the strain hes had so many problems since an octopus ate his brain
In all seriousness, we all know he's a limited player in terms of skill but he has two great qualities, in my opinion. He doesn't know the meaning of can't. Even if there are three players in front of him and he's got no where else to go he will just charge through. He manages to get through surprisingly frequently. This shows that he's got a lot of determination and sometimes football is about being more determined than your opponent. He also lifts the whole team. He's a leader and an optimist. This thread was mainly a reminder that sometimes we just need to support the team. We managed it in the third division when we were crap, why not now?
Yesterday Mackie was great, but so were many other players. Infact you could probably name the whole team. It was also good to see Sylla being frustrated at being taken off before the end as he wanted to play on and score. Finally, well done to Paweł Wszołek. To be named MOM after such great individual performances is impressive and indicative of his form. I hope that we are already agreeing a deal for a permanent transfer.
A fully fit and confident Mackie is almost a template for the ideal player for the Championship and it is not by chance that his return to the side has coincided with our recent bounce in fortunes. On the negative side his passion-filled but often reckless running will inevitably result in periods out of the side either through injuries or bookings. And he can get sussed by top defenders as we saw regularly in the Premier League which in turn knocks the self-believe that is central to his style of play. Regardless of that you just have to love the guy and he is on track to become a QPR legend in the style of Ainsworth and Bircham.
I, for one, am very happy to admit that Jamie Mackie's return has exceeded all of my expectations. I was delighted when we signed him from Plymouth & he lived up to (perhaps exceeded) them. However, I didn't understand why we signed him back from Forest & last season backed the view that he was finished as a footballer. The last three league games have shown us what we lost when injury took it's toll on him though. I would be amazed, but delighted, if he can keep up this endeavour till the end of the season & hope that Queens Park Rangers can take full advantage while it lasts!
Fair post Terry and agree. This thread is like the kid in the playground that runs around going "Nah nah I told you I was right' after getting one thing right. I will wait before I make my verdict.
It's not really about that, smarty-pants. It's about giving players flack when we could be supporting them.
We all know he runs around like a headless chicken sometimes, but yesterday's goal where he lost his marker and ghosted in at the far post show he has a good football brain. Add to that the 2 great balls he put into the 'corridor of uncertainty' which, given more playing time together, I'm sure Sylla would have anticipated one and stuck it away, Add to that the late run to the far post for Wszolek's cross that Sylla stole in the 2nd half. Add to that the fact that he is an irritant to the defending side, constantly chasing, harrying and forcing them to play the ball early and under pressure. Add to that the fact that he is 100% an R and will give 100% for the shirt - even if he is not the most technically gifted player While he remains injury free surely all that is worth a starting place... no?
There is no disputing Mackie's enthusiasm and take with it the fact he's rough at the edges but it's difficult to deny his infectious attitude is part of why we have just one 3 on the spin. He'll be the first to admit that he will not be great every game but will always give 100%. Not a great player but certainly someone we need right now. Puts a few to shame, especially after fighting back from serious injury.
Look...................I think we all agree that he's a pretty limited footballer; some think he's more limited than others. However, I think he's exactly the type of player that is required in our current situation.
He or I might die first Kiwi. We are both fairly aged. To be fair he runs, is experienced and canny, and sets a good example in terms of commitment. He was shown up in the PL, but is fine for a fight to get out of trouble in the Championship. I don't see him as part of a team pushing for promotion, but of course I'm probably wrong.
It was really nervy watching that last 15 minutes yesterday - I was scared shytless Mackie was going to equalise for a famous Mackie 1 - Mackie1... Luckily he was totally knackered by then and couldn't get close to either box , and Holloway safed him off at the death.
