I don't know about anyone else but this will go down as one of the most uninteresting and worst Formula 1 seasons I have watched over. Every qualifying has mostly been 2 by 2, no real competition from other teams, next team down around a second a lap away. Even the Hamilton Rosberg rivalry has become dull as dishwater. No electric atmosphere like we used to have between title rivals. Just excuses, bickering and newspapers running the show. Almost become a b-spec F1 series. I hope next year separates the men from the boys with mid- 00's spec cars. Never looked forward to the end of an F1 season as much as 2016.

I'm glad this set of regulations are ending, especially as I would concur this isn't proper F1. Whilst, in no way would I describe this as a classic season, I would say that last year was worse, with '14 vs this one still to be decided.

At least this year we've got a potentially unpredictable outcome and have had the Verstappen story...

This season, if nothing else, is better than 2015. Now that was a godawful season.

Why does everyone think 2017 is going to be soooooooooo much better just because there is a change in the regs?

It rarely yields great seasons, the most competitive are when the regs have been stable for some time so the potential for development lessens as everyone gets to the limit of the regs.

Three years of the same regs and the field hasn't closed at all.

By contrast 2009 was quite close. Only one and a half seconds separating the field at some events in the first year of those regs. Right now 1.5 seconds off the pace will get you a Q3 spot.

It may not make it better, but it can't hurt.

Mercedes have the current formula by the balls. I can't wait for it to change.

I cannot believe engine development was initially banned, perhaps the most ridiculous decision in competitive sporting history.

The most complex power unit in F1 history, and you were banned from improving it <laugh> locking in Merc domination for three years as it's taken until now just to get Ferrari and Renault in the same ball park, and even now they lack the half second boost that Mercedes turns on in quali.

Freeing up engine development is as big as the aero changes in my view.

It's unlikely to shake the field up massively in the order initially but it should close things up and also faster cars with the torque of this engines should bring out the best in some
    of the drivers.

Merc will still have the edge initially I think and will be favourites, but hoping that Honda, Ferrari and Renault can make some gains with the development.

We'll personally I'm not saying next year will be more competitive, but I do at least prefer the idea of the new regulations.

The biggest game changer will be the lifting on engine development.

Personally, I think F1 works best when it's an aero/chassis formula, and I hope that over time these rules will be better because of that.

Jean Todt, the president of the sport’s governing body, the FIA, has decided to take no further action against Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel following his mid-race outburst towards Formula 1 race director Charlie Whiting.

After his curse-laden outburst was broadcast on TV, Vettel apologised in person to Whiting following the race, and then wrote further letters of apology to Whiting and Todt.

He also said he would contact Max Verstappen, who he waved his finger at on the slowing-down lap, and also vowed to never repeat these actions.

The FIA has condemned his use of offensive language, and suggested that a further breach similar to the Mexico outburst would result in an FIA Tribunal.

    The FIA statement in full…

At the recent Mexican Grand Prix, the Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel made comments over team radio using repeated foul language directed at both the FIA Formula 1 Race Director Charlie Whiting and a fellow competitor which were retransmitted during the live broadcast of the event.

Immediately following this incident, Sebastian Vettel spontaneously sought out Charlie Whiting to express his regrets for his behaviour in person. He then, again on his own initiative, sent letters to each of the FIA President Jean Todt and Charlie Whiting, in which he apologised profusely for his actions. He also indicated that he would likewise be contacting Max Verstappen and vowed that such an incident would never occur again.

In the light of this sincere apology and strong commitment, the FIA President has decided, on an exceptional basis, not to take disciplinary action against Mr Vettel by bringing this matter before the FIA International Tribunal.

The FIA will always condemn the use of offensive language in motor sport – especially when directed at officials and/or fellow participants – and expects all participants in its Championships to be respectful and mindful of the example they set for the public and the younger generation in particular.

The FIA takes this opportunity to advise that, in the event of any future incident similar to the one that occurred in Mexico, disciplinary action will be taken by bringing such incident before the FIA International Tribunal to be judged.

Zak Brown 'signs McLaren deal' to land leading role at F1 team
Marketing expert set to take on 'top job' at Woking, report Sky News

Zak Brown has agreed to become a new boss of McLaren, according to Sky News.

It is understood that the 45-year-old marketing guru has signed a deal to take a senior executive role at McLaren, with the move set to be confirmed this week.

Sources revealed to Sky Sports last week that Brown had received offers from both McLaren and Liberty Media, the sport's proposed new owners. The American is thought to have informed F1's commerical rights holder over the weekend of his intention to take the McLaren job.

The exact nature and title of Brown's role at McLaren is unclear but the team announced last Tuesday they were in the 'process of seeking a new chief executive officer' following the removal of Ron Dennis in the final act of a long-running bitter boardroom dispute.

Already a familiar face within the F1 paddock, Brown is a free agent after tendering his resignation as the chief executive of the CSM sport marketing and entertainment group two months ago.

Sky News has previously reported that McLaren executives warned the team stood to lose up to £160m in sponsorship money were Dennis to be ousted. According to The Sunday Times, Dennis is 'now weighing whether to launch a damages claim against his fellow shareholders in the McLaren Technology Group'.

Looking two seasons into the future is a fools game. Talk to someone in 2013 about Vettel leaving Red Bull and Alonso going back to McLaren! Utter madness.

The competitive order may get shaken up and that could change everything. Ferrari do well and all this unhappy Vettel talk will fade to nothing. I do feel we're due some major drama at one of the top teams soon though.

With McLaren i think Jenson may well end up being their best choice if Alonso leaves and no drama happens higher up. They aren't exactly in an attractive position at the moment, but if Fernando is leaving because the car is still terrible that's unlikely to tempt Button away from his triathlons either.

Button thinks this will be his last race

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/38092740

"At this moment in time, I don't want to be racing in F1 beyond this year."

"It is true that I have a contract in 2018 but, at this moment in time, I am not going to be racing in 2018," Button added.

    Terrible journalism even for Benson.

Button says the same thing he's been saying since September ("right now I don't want to race but we'll see how I feel in six months") and the BBC report it as some big retirement announcement.

It is good though, since it is at least 90% likely that it will be his final race, that were getting a proper goodbye for JB.
