    Oh dear, what a pity.

Martin Jol has resigned as head coach of Cairo giants Al Ahly

please log in to view this image

"Jol’s decision came after he was faced by a wave of criticism following a poor run of results, which saw the record eight-time African Champions League winners exit the 2016 competition as well as lose the Egypt Cup final to archrivals Zamalek. Al Ahly announced that general coach Osama Oraby will lead the team in their upcoming game against ASEC Mimosas in the CAF Champions League group stage.

The 60-year-old manager said that his decision to depart Al Ahly was due to the recent events faced by the club saying it became difficult to continue in his post, according to a statement by Al Ahly, who accepted his resignation saying they understand the reasons behind his decision.

A group of fans stormed the team’s training session on Tuesday, forcing its cancellation after insulting and attacking the players and the technical staff over poor results. The Al Ahly board then decided to suspend the team’s training sessions indefinitely over security reasons."

At this point, it seems appropriate to mention that Chris Smalling's goal scoring record when at Fulham stands at minus two.

Yeah, definitely a friend of the analytics rosc. Moreover, based on theory in a perfect world, and makes more assumptions than I do.

Know we're agreed not to do politics on here, but this one is on the fringe and made me laugh.

Following on with another 'political comment', and this one is nearer the edge but I still found it quite funny:

"May 2010 Cameron enters Downing Street, the start of Fulham's decline. July 2016 Cameron exits Downing Street and Fulham's revival begins."

Don't get me started. And don't you dare link our revival to Theresa May!

Are Bournemouth doing "a Fulham" on Emerson Hyndman by signing Wilshere?

Elsewhere two old boys move .. again. Marcello Trotta has gone to Crotone (no clue who they are either) and Orlando Sa from Maccabi Tel Aviv to Standard Liege.

I thought the same, Cottager. With Arter, Surman Gosling and Lewis Cook also competing for central midfield roles, Emerson might have to be very patient for his chance. Interestingly, I see that Bournemouth have also sold Eunan O'Kane to Leeds. I always thought he could have done a great job for us. He would have fitted in just fine alongside McDonald.

And by pure coincidence it was five years ago today that Martin Jol brought in the 'one goal wonder' (Norwich I think) on a free transfer. And gave him a 3 year contract.

At the time Orlando said, ""I am happy to have completed my transfer to Fulham and the Premier League today. It's a wonderful challenge for me and I am keen to bring my qualities to Fulham and the Premier League."

Aye well, his time at Fulham and the Premier League only lasted 1 of those 3 years as his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

In fact Jol went a bit doolally on that Deadline Day five years ago. Not only Orlando Sa but

    Bryan Ruiz
    Muamer Tankovic
    Sean Kavanagh
    and
    Rafik Halliche

He could even have gone one better but for Marseille taking cold feet on a deal for Andre-Pierre Gignac.

And, how good was this compared to Jol?

On many different 'forums' I've read criticism about out CEO's lack of judgement and our CFO's lust for power. However, I've never heard anyone suggest that within their own boundaries, they have ever acted other than professionally. In contrast the CEO of the lot at the other end of the Borough takes the biscuit for small mindedness and self importance.

I'm going to take this blog at face value and believe it accurately reports the statements of QPR's Lee Hoos. Have a read - you could say, "it would be funny if it wasn't so serious" but personally I found him an absolute hoot -

C / H a certain Senderloss who was eventually sent off.
What a cock up letting MD go.

MD missed a penalty as Celtic lost 7-0 last night Ros, if that makes you feel better?

Seriously though, I think the Dembele/Hyndman fiasco this summer is somewhat behind our drive to find/develop more London kids, such as Sessegnon. At least we're likely to get some money back on English kids (such as Roberts, even if that should have been more).

Surlyc i am still miffed over the MD affair but what worries me and the Cottage faithfull is the clubs £ sign policy
deprives us regular fans of seeing these talented youngsters progress.

Not sure if this is your general chat thread, so apologies if I'm in the wrong place, although it does relate to McBride....
Would any of you know if the Brian McBride bar has Sky TV & if they show the live televised games before your match on Saturdays? Thanks in advance.

Can't say for McBride's bar, Foxy. In the food areas below the stands they no longer show other matches before kick off. Used to when we were in the Premiership and when Sky had a game on live. But not any longer.

    Sorry that's not really helpful.
