Seems the Trialist playing for us was Shilow Tracey who plays for Ebbsfleet, a number of Prem and Champ clubs are after him and he did no harm to his reputation with us on Saturday playing for the U18's

U21s won 3-2 at Bristol City on Monday. No mention of it on the OS Pathetic. Must make the youngsters feel really valued.

Beeney; Barnes, Edwards, Staunton, Konsa; Charles-Cook, Kelly, Aribo; Ahearne-Grant, Umerah, Lookman.
Subs: Prall, Assiana, Lapslie, Millar, Hanlan.

Goals: KAG (pen), Umerah, KAG again.

For the first time for years we seem to have a settled u21 side and the benefits are showing. Maybe because we don't have many spare senior players needing a run-out at present.

We also have Kennedy, Lennon, Holmes-Dennis, Mitov, Phillips, Sho-Silva, Thomas and Obileye to add to the above,

Looked up Sho-Silva on the net to see if he is getting a look in at Inverness. Apparently not.

But in doing so I noticed that the Inverness first team squad includes 14 English players, 7 from other countries, and only six Scots. No wonder Scotland is struggling at international level.

It finished Charlton 3 Crystal Palace 2 at a very cold Home of VCD. An excellent game full of tough tackles and no little skill. We took the lead through Josh Umerah when he finished neatly from a Bergdich through ball. We also hit the bar from a Vaz Te free kick from just outside the area. Palace quickly equalised and it stayed that way at half time.
We quickly came out of the blocks in the Second half and a cross from the right found an unmarked Vaz Te who made a hash of a free header but it fortunately rolled into the path of Umerah who tucked it away. No sooner had he put Charlton ahead then we conceded a soft goal which was fired through a cluster of Charlton players.
Vaz Te was substituted after sixty minutes and sub Brandan Hanlan fired neatly home with his first touch.
The game then got a bit spiteful with the tackles flying in. But we held out for a well deserved win to keep us on top of the table.

    Mitov
    Barnes, Thomas, Konsa, Edwards
    Kennedy, Aribo, Bergdich Charles- Cook
    Umerah, Vaz Te,

Subs Prall, Kelly for Kennedy, Hanlan for Vaz Te, Staunton for Bergdich, Assiana.

Thanks, Dick, Getting chilly here in the Dominican Republic too. Only 86 Fahrenheit and it is high noon.

I can see why Vaz Te needs games to sharpen up, but why Bergdich? Shop window?

Good win for the lads. I feared we would lose that one despite our form being better than Palace's.

Did Vaz Te and Bergdich look better than u21 level (as they would need to do)?

Finally, was that Terrell Thomas back from Woking? I believe we have another Thomas in the u18s (but could be wrong).

Vaz Te just strolled through the game Bergdich was OK did some good things. It was Terell Thomas who had a solid game as did Konsa.

Can't understand why Moussa doesn't make the bench. Why have Kag, Reza and Vaz Te on there? Kag needs some lower league football.

Harriott gets his second with a right-foot shot to send ColU into the next round. Great to see him doing so well, I think that's 4 in 3 now, and he nearly scored with a header. I hope for his sake that we don't recall him in January.

I think he has scored seven for Colchester in total. I think he will be recalled in January. We will need him for our relegation fight.

Staunton and Kennedy have been handed new contracts. I don't know much about Staunton, but the Kennedy one surprised me,since he hasn't looked a potential Championship player, although naturally I'd love him to prove me wrong. I take this more of a sign of where we are expected to be playing next season, TBH.

Glad to see Hanlan scoring again. Players who work as hard as he does deserve success.

U18s lost 2-1 at QPR. We beat them 9-0 at home on September. In that match Lookman scored four. He was not playing this time. Also Bah, who scored three, was an unused sub this time.

Hard-fought 2-1 win for the U-18's against Colchester, deserved because we had the game's outstanding player, George Lapslie. The other goal was prodded in by the number 10. Steve Avory's teams always work hard for each other, and pressurise the opponents as soon as we lose possession. The man in possession always has someone available. Much more enjoyable to watch than the first team.

    TOP THE TABLE
    20-Dec 16:04, by Ketts
Both the Under-18s and Under-16s won on Saturday.

Charlton Under-18s played their final match of the year on Saturday morning,‎ when they played host to Colchester United.‎

Charlton made numerous changes to the line up which figured last time out in the defeat to QPR, with regular starters Beeney, Yao, Bone, Bah and Anderson all returning to the starting eleven.‎

Prior to kick-off a minute's silence was observed impeccably by the whole of the academy, and Colchester United also, in memory of Academy coach, Steve Adams, who tragically passed away last week. The players and staff for the Under-18s also wore black armbands as a mark of respect.‎

Charlton came out of the blocks quickly and took the lead early on as a ball was whipped into the box. Sam Bone challenged with the keeper, but no foul was given and Daniel Bowry was on hand to stab the ball home.‎

The young Addicks would continue to dominate the game and Lapslie should have made it two when he found space in the box from a corner, but his header went agonisingly the wrong side of the post.‎

Diminutive striker, Terrique Anderson, then had a chance to get the all important second goal, but after he found himself one-on-one with the Colchester keeper, who made a remarkable save to deny Anderson.‎

Colchester came out in the second half more determined and knew they were lucky to only be a goal behind. A goal that was quickly wiped out when the Essex side were awarded a free-kick just outside the box and it was bent into the back of the net beating Jordan Beeney at his near post.

Both sides continued to press and create openings but Charlton's rearguard stood firm, withstanding anything the visitors could throw at them.‎

Then in the final quarter of the match the winning goal came from a Charlton set piece out wide. The ball was drilled in, and after an initial shot was blocked, it fell kindly for George Lapslie to fire the ball into the back of the net.‎

Charlton had the only major chance in the rest of the game when substitute defender, Romarno Simpson, somehow found himself free in the box, but his shot lacked accuracy and was well saved by the keeper.‎

Charlton saw out the game by keeping the ball in the corner and were happy at the full time whistle to have earned a hard fought 3 points.

The result means the Addicks Under-18s top the table going into the Christmas break. ‎

The next fixture for the Under-18s is on Saturday 9 January when they travel to Bristol City.‎

Charlton: Beeney; Bangura-Williams (Simpson), Bowry, Yao, Zemura; Bone, Maloney, Lapslie, Bah (Willis); Anderson (Sarpong-Wiredu), Millar.‎

    Subs (Not Used): Maynard-Brewer, Morgan.‎

Under-18 league table at the end of 2015.‎

    1 Charlton. 17 33‎
    2 Watford. 17 32‎
    3 Crystal Palace 17 27
    4 Colchester 16 22
    5 Millwall. 14 20‎
    6 Ipswich. 16 19‎
    7 Brentford. 18 18‎
    8 Cardiff. 16 17‎
    9 Bristol City 18 14‎
    10 QPR 16 14‎

Charlton Under-16s also beat Colchester on Saturday, with Antonio Falanga's side winning 4-3.

It finished Charlton three Colchester one at a cold wet and windy VCD. It was a decent game considering the conditions and we were in control throughout. We were very strong in defence with Thomas and Konsa outstanding. Aribo was also excellent in midfield and he seldom gave the ball away. But the star of the show was Charles- Cook who was everywhere and prompted all our best plays.
Moussa also had a good game, hitting the post with a thunderbolt and also mishitting a couple of shots which resulted in two goals.
I think we should all boycott the first team games and go to see the U18s and U21s. I have seen the U18s win on Saturday and the U21s win today.

Charlton: Pope, Barnes, Konsa, Thomas, Bergdich (Yao 46), Muldoon (Kelly 68), Charles-Cook, Moussa, Kennedy (Umerah 68), Aribo, Hanlan.

    Subs (not used): Beeney, Hayden-Smith.

    Goals: Hanlan 26, Kennedy 46, Umerah 72
