But what if Ayling didn't want the number 2 slot?

He was under contract and Johnson was the head coach, man management, you stay, play for your place until we find a suitable replacement, then you can leave.

Fair enough, but it could be that was said and Ayling thought: 'bollocks to that, I want more assurance of a first-team spot'.

.......and that is dissension from a player to his boss, if Ayling was saying it how many others have had the same outcome..

Just asking not making any unproven claims but it does make you think..

The parting could have been very amicable, or not - the point I'm making is, that one shouldn't assume what happened and use it as a stick to beat the manager... particularly when there's a perfectly good one called 'JUST 12 POINTS EARNED FROM THE PAST 20 GAMES!', which is fact.

It's the next 15 games I'm concerned about, we can't afford for them to be lost, Johnston deserves everything he gets, he took the plaudits, he makes the decisions, he is paid the queens shilling, he will deserve the boot if he fails..

I completely agree in principle but in reality this never happens. If a player is too good to be a number 2 they're going to become unsettled, which is only going to cause issues. You can say what you like about the player being under contract but we have to be realistic about the way football works.

Normally the selling of players isn't done through the manager. Ashton will have accepted the bid.

I envisage a similar situation happening with our keepers. What happens when we replace fielding and he ends up being great for another side. Hypothetical situation of course.

I read on another forum that there is a strong rumour that Lansdown wanted shot of Ayling over the Cheltenham incident, putting the club in a bad light. So if it's true I doubt LJ could of down much about it.
I blame LJ for a lot of things, but as others said Mathews was the number one for that position and including me was one of those who desperately wanted us to sign Mathews for this season. If he played anywhere near the way he played last season Ayling wasn't going to get a look in.
In hightsight now with Little out for a while it would of been good to have him here as a third or second option.

So many short memories on this site, this time last season there was a good many people calling for Ayling to go, who are now funnily enough in the why did we sell camp! Unf***ing believable!!

Indeed we did, we have agreed on many others but not this one.. I personally couldn't see the reason for all the hype about Matthews, Ayling was better. He was then and is now.

Got anymore Ayling type players we can have,to keep us in the top 6 ? Got to be one of the best rightbacks in the league
Yes Luke was a excellent player for us,Gave everything not like the shambles our fantastic manager kept instead.Luke was championship/Little is not.
Luke wanted first team football LJ would not guarantee it.
The rest they say is history.

LA will do a sterling job for you,Most city fans wanted him to stay.
To be fair LA did not want away he was forced by our current manager.

Why have you quoted a post from after he left, when I specifically asked you to quote from when he was here?
