We've had a pretty decent run, although we've had some frustrations (@ Wolves, v Brighton for example). However when you look at our next ten games, there is a chance to get a lot of points. Fulham v Barnsley Queens Park Rangers v Fulham Fulham v Blackburn Rovers Burton Albion v Fulham Birmingham City v Fulham Fulham v Wigan Athletic Fulham v Nottingham Forest Bristol City v Fulham Cardiff City v Fulham Fulham v Preston North End All of those games are winnable and we could put something of a run together. Hopefully the aftermath of Chrexit will be resolved (either with a full apology or a new no. 9) and we can get those points in the bank!
With Reading stuck in there somewhere. Apparently the date will be announced next week - us and Blackburn (tee hee) both going into the 4th round makes it tricky to schedule. Wouldn't want to play Reading away without a recognised striker so hopefully they'll come up with a day after 1st February when that Chrexit issue should be sorted.
Was thinking the exact same thing the other day, hoping for a lot of points to be gained in the next few weeks. Also wondering if the likes of Leeds and Huddersfield can keep up their good form, hopefully a few of the current top 6 hit a bad patch and we can swoop in to replace them.
Not losing any sleep over it but the telly people aren't doing Leeds any favours. They are on live in the Cup (v Cambridge) on Monday night the again on Friday night (v Derby).
The re-arranged Reading game has been scheduled for Tuesday 24th January kick off 8pm. Makes it a pretty cramped end to January then, and two midweek games either side of the 4th round Cup match. Should be another bumper following though. The Club have confirmed: "Reading Football Club’s terms and conditions for the sale of all match tickets state that the club will offer half price admission to rearranged games. However, in this case Reading will offer a free ticket for the rearranged fixture to all away supporters who had purchased a match ticket for the original game at the end of 2016."
Because of the 4th round Cup ties, the Blackburn game has been moved to Tuesday 14th March with a 7.45pm kick-off. Don't understand therefore why the re-arranged Reading game had to squeezed into January. However that means that we have 4 League games on the bounce away from home - QPR on Saturday 21st Jan Reading on Tuesday 24th Jan Burton now on Wednesday 1st Feb Birmingham on 4th Feb Those matches could well define our season - with the Cup game on Sunday 29th Jan thrown in for good measure. Certainly not going to be a lot of rest for the wicked.
With our team anything is possible. if they really knuckle down and tighten up at the back, we get a decent striker in then we could win all of them. That would be lovely!
For those keeping score, we got 20 out of 27 points from these games (with one rearranged). I'm still smarting a little from the Birmingham defeat, but I've no complaints over that haul (which could yet be 23 from 30, with Blackburn at home a week Tuesday). Obviously the next ten games takes us almost to the end of the season, but I'd say to make the playoffs we need to target at least 10 points from the next 5 games: Fulham v Leeds Newcastle v Fulham Fulham v Blackburn Fulham v Wolves Rotherham v Fulham.
The three home games are very winnable, anything from Newcastle is a bonus and I'd be very disappointed if we came home from Rotherham with anything less than 3 points given their struggles this season. The big game is the next one against Leeds, not only as on paper it looks like our hardest home game of the three, but a win against fellow play off hopefuls at this point of the season and we can really start to believe
