Saturday's EDP column from Robin Sainty. He reiterates the massive question marks over Wes and Klose's absence from the team even when we were floundering and losing game after game. http://www.pinkun.com/opinion/step_in_the_right_direction_but_i_ll_reserve_judgment_1_4840009
However, the key is what sort of players come in and how much dead wood can be offloaded from the wage bill, because there are too many players in the squad who are nowhere near the team yet drawing good money. For me, that's the crux of the matter - who we can offload!!!
Strange that some, or perhaps more than just some, fans, even when players who they think should be played, ARE played, and when they get a result everyone can be pleased about, they still have to find fault in some way or another. The answer to Mr. Sainty is pretty straightforward I should have thought. Yes, Wes and Klose are definitely two of the ´better´ players in our squad, but that doesn´t by any means mean that they are better suited to all games in this league. Even when Wes first came to us ( and this hasn´t changed over the years), he drifted in and out of games the whole time, and if he was played too often, he would firstly lose his sparkle, and secondly, opposing teams soon worked out how to stop him. Give him time and space, he´s lethal, but close him down and particularly force him onto his right foot, he´s no more than average. Klose is a skilful, ball-playing centre-back, but not at all physical, and can easily be bullied, as we saw against Brighton, where Murray was far too strong for him, Grant Holt would have beaten him all ends up too, but stick him in against Aguero, and he´d probably do fairly well. He is, exactly what he was bought to be, a Premier League centre-back, unfortunately for him, there aren´t that many Agueros in the Championship. I would love to see both of them in the starting line-ups every week, but I can certainly understand if and why they´re not.
Barrow Vs Rochdale should be a telly game!! Brentford Vs Eastleigh. That should be another. Accrington Stanley Vs Luton. Sutton United Vs AFC Wimbledon. Wycombe Vs Stourbridge, That's what the FA Cup is about! Not this sh*t! There are so many options before you go for the same old boring Man U, Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool. You can see them every week!
