Woohoo. Might be getting an MLS team not too far from me. Charlotte, NC has plans to have an MLS franchise set up. (They have to be accepted first).

Currently the closest professional footy team is about 9-10hrs drive from me, so having one relatively close is good news.

 

shoulds fun but... well... i think they'll struggle to get going. they won't be i ntop div for a long time but who knows some journeyed old player might take your money to stroll about in the sun.

 

Doesn't work like that in the US. There is no relegation and promotion. MLS is the top level, they will start immediately in top flight. They probably will suck the first year or two though. Would be great if some old Liverpool player moved here. Lucas Leiva?

Up in the air how many teams will get accepted. 10 cities have asked to be allowed to have teams in the MLS. No clue how many will be granted. 4 to 6 new teams is what I read. So odds are 50:50. Charlotte has a big football fan base. It's one of the reasons Liverpool played here a few years back. There is a big Liverpool fan base specifically.

Could be years before it starts up. Was several years ago that Beckham was given license to start team in Miami and he hasn't yet.

They have an Eastern division and a Western division. Each team plays most of their games against teams on the same half of the continent as themselves.

The UCL is another league. Kinda like a second tier but there is no promotion/relegation between the two.

There are a couple of UCL in the Carolinas. The Charleston Battery and the Charlotte Independence. The Independence will probably be scrapped if Charlotte get an MLS team.

I said I'm 9-10 hours away from an MLS team, but I forgot. Atlanta is getting a new team this year... So I'm actually only 4.5 hours away from one now.


To be honest I don't follow MLS at all. Although, I'd Charlotte gets a team I might start.

 

Qualities terrible. But its always nice to have a team to follow.
